The question turns out to be complicated, requiring information from three different government agencies. The short answer is that a group of neighbors may get some—but not all—of what they want.

Highland Park—One person was shot and killed Tuesday evening in Highland Park. Officers responded around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday near Avenue 64 and York Boulevard to reports of shots fired, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available. KTLA reported that the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Silver Lake—The dead body of a man was found over the weekend along Sunset Boulevard. The Los Angeles Fire Department said they were called at 4:03 pm on Saturday, Sept. 5, to 2904 W. Sunset Blvd., near Parkman Avenue, in the same block as Cafe Tropical and Silverlake Lounge. Firefighters then notified the police department about a body in public view. The LAPD said the case is filed as a death investigation. Information about the man's age or cause of death was not available.

The  North Central Animal Services Center  in Lincoln Heights. <a Lincoln Heights—Extra security is in place at Los Angeles Animal Services' North Central shelter after an attack last week left staff members injured, LAAS General Manager Gabrielle Amster said Tuesday. The attack occurred Friday afternoon at the facility at 3201 Lacy St., near Interstate 5 and the Harbor (110) Freeway, Amster told the Board of Animal Services Commissioners at its regular meeting.

Boyle Heights—Police Tuesday released their account of the fatal shooting by at least one officer of a man in Boyle Heights who allegedly advanced toward an officer while armed with a pole saw. Officers responded about 10 a.m. Monday to a radio call in the 600 block of Gillette Street regarding "a violent male with mental illness" who was armed with a metal pipe, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
