BUCKHANNON - A longtime charitable organization based in Upshur County is seeking applications for an annual grant program. The Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon is accepting grant applications through Sept. 30 for its next Healthy Communities Initiative. The initiative provides funding to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations for health-focused projects that address needs in Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur and Webster counties.

CHARLESTON - A deal between the family of U.S. Sen. Jim Justice and New York-based financial firm Kennedy Lewis Investment Management for the historic Greenbrier Resort was already finalized, but the West Virginia Lottery Commission has formally approved the new ownership group.

BELINGTON – The Mountain State Forest Festival is hosting a sanctioned National Wildlife Turkey Calling Contest through the Tygart Valley Local West Virginia chapter of the NWTF at 9 a.m. Saturday at Knot Just Another Barn, 257 Camp Mahonegan Rd. in Belington. Registration is free and will take place at 8 a.m. The event will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Divisions include Open, Friction, and Owl Hooting for both adults and juveniles. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.

ELKINS -- The Elkins High School golf team earned top honors in a tri-match held Wednesday at the Elks Golf Course. The Tigers finished the match with a 151, ahead of visiting teams Moorefield (176) and Lincoln. Kendrick Smith led the way for Elkins and finished atop the leaderboard with a 36. Lincoln Fletcher was second overall and followed teammate Smith with a 37. The Tigers’ Luca Collier placed fourth with a 38 and Dyer Barger was fifth with a 40.

ELKINS – The wait is finally over and the start of the 2026 high school football season officially gets underway for area teams tonight with a handful of games slated for 7 p.m. kickoffs. Two local squads, Elkins and Philip Barbour, are both coming off strong campaigns from a year ago. Both teams enter the season with high expectations with talented players returning to both teams’ rosters. Elkins will entertain Lincoln for a Big 10 Conference contest at Tiger Stadium.

Last month, CNBC released its 2026 rankings of America’s Top States for Business. Ohio finished first, the culmination of a two-decade climb from 30th place when the study began. West Virginia finished 46th. Last year we were 40th. In twelve months, while our neighbor across the Ohio River was becoming the best state in the country to build a company, we fell six spots in the other direction. SNOWSHOE - A West Virginia Department of Transportation flight demonstration atop Snowshoe Mountain has been awarded a regional transportation award. The award honors a December 2025 demonstration in which the Electra aircraft company flew its EL2 hybrid-electric Ultra Short Takeoff and Landing aircraft from regional airports and landed directly on Snowshoe Mountain.

The Inter-Mountain will be running profiles and photos of this year’s class in the days leading up to the ceremony. The 1970-1971 Tygarts Valley Bulldogs delivered one of the most memorable seasons in school history, finishing with an outstanding 21-4 record.
