BEDFORD Neighbor dispute leads to arrest On Friday, Oct. 2, a Yonkers man, 58, was arrested at police headquarters stemming from an incident that occurred Sept. 12 in a residential complex in Bedford Hills. During a dispute between neighbors, he is said to have brandished pepper spray and pretended to be a police officer. At the time, a warrant was made for his arrest and a few weeks later a license plate reader located him in the area.

New police HQ in Lewisboro projected to cost $8.49 million
By NEAL RENTZ The Lewisboro Town Board was presented with details of the proposed new police headquarters on Spring Street on Oct. 5. The estimated cost is $8.49 million. The one-story building, with a 4,000-square-foot footprint, would have an attic and a walk-out basement with a garage bay.
Pound Ridge lawyer wants Purple Plains' license revoked
By THANE GRAUEL A local attorney has renewed his effort to have the license for a cannabis retailer revoked. John Nathan on Oct. 5 petitioned the state’s Cannabis Control Board to declare that the group running Purple Plains on Westchester Avenue did not meet the criteria for the license it was granted in April 2024. Nathan said that the individual who owns 51% of SMMB Inc. does not actually have “sole control” as required by state rules and by a recent state ruling regarding another business.
Gas leak causes evacuation of Mount Kisco schools
By MARTIN WILBUR A construction crew struck a high-pressure gas line on Highland Avenue last week causing a leak that forced an emergency response and the evacuation of the Hillside School and Mount Kisco Elementary School. Westchester County Police said the incident was reported about 9 a.m., on Oct. 1. Responding officers detected a strong gas order and heard a hissing sound near the construction site.
St. Mary's Katonah subdivision draws intense opposition

By JEFF MORRIS A plan by St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption to subdivide its property in Katonah continues to draw intense criticism. The proposal was subjected to questions and concerns from neighbors at a Planning Board hearing Aug. 31, and was again the focus of scrutiny from the public at the Oct. 1 Zoning Board of Appeals meeting.
Mount Kisco man 'tagged' in campaign sign theft
By MARTIN WILBUR Modern technology has played a role in solving a perennial problem — the theft of political campaign signs. A 41-year-old Mount Kisco man was arrested Monday in the theft of 20 political signs in the village after they were found in the back of his truck. AirTags, small tracking devices, led to the vehicle. Daniel Bruno of Boltis Street was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, a Westchester County police spokesman said.

The center is located on a private nature preserve at 7 Buck Run.
