McPhee Bridge to undergo $369,000 rehabilitation
The Township of North Glengarry will spend approximately $369,000 to rehabilitate McPhee Bridge after a recent inspection found the structure to be in fair-to-poor condition. Council awarded the $368,816 contract, plus applicable taxes, to Willis Kerr Contracting at its Monday, September 14 meeting. McPhee Bridge is located on McPhee Road, about 1.1 kilometres north of Glen Robertson Road. Built in 2010, the single-lane bridge has a 14.6-metre timber deck supported by steel girders.
A $30,000 donation for HGH
The Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation has received a $30,000 donation made possible through an employee fundraising initiative at MLS Insurance in St-Isidore and matching contributions from both MLS Insurance and Intact Insurance. The donation began with the dedication and generosity of MLS Insurance employees, who contributed a small amount each Friday for the opportunity to wear jeans in the workplace. Through this employee-led initiative, $10,000 was raised.

Rally against Alto near Rigaud
A large, diverse crowd of farmers and other citizens of all political affiliations gathered at Ferme Legault near Rigaud on Saturday, September 19 to show they are unified against the proposed Alto high-speed passenger rail project. The Strong and United Rally began with a parade of tractors, many covered with anti-Alto signs or pulling wagons with displays opposing the project, arrived at the site.

Ravary offers diverse experience and service for Champlain residents
Serge Ravary believes his variety of career experiences and past community service are why voters in Champlain Township should vote for him to be their next mayor on October 26. Born and raised on a dairy farm, Ravary began his teaching career at Collège d’Alfred before becoming co-owner of a dairy farm and a purebred cattle herd. This experience led him to develop business relationships in the 1990s in Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Belgium and China, involving the trade of cattle genetics.
Black spots on maple leaves not a cause for concern
Area residents who have noticed black spots on the green leaves of maple trees on their properties should not be alarmed. On Friday, September 18, a Vankleek Hill resident visited The Review office with several leaves from sugar maples on her property that had large, black spots on them. The leaves were still otherwise green and had not yet begun to change colour and die as usually happens this time of year.
Women’s March continues cause against violence and sexual assault
About 200 people demonstrated in Chute-à-Blondeau on Wednesday, September 16 that violence against women cannot be tolerated in any community, no matter the size. The 19th Prescott and Russell Women’s March was held that day in the village. Each year, the demonstration takes place in a different community across the region. The march is organized by women’s organization Centre Novas and other partners.
