SEATTLE (AP) — U.S. star Christian Pulisic will miss Friday’s World Cup match against Australia because of a calf injury. American coach Maurice Pochettino made the announcement during an interview with Fox about 90 minutes before the kickoff at Lumen Field in Seattle. The move is a setback for a U.S. team riding high after defeating Paraguay 4-1 in its first game one week ago. Pulisic left the game at halftime.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay coach Doug Gottlieb has agreed to a contract extension that takes his deal through the 2030-31 season. Athletic director Josh Moon announced the extension Friday. The school did not release financial details of the extension. Moon, who hired Gottlieb in 2024, received his own contract extension Wednesday and now has a deal that also runs through 2031.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Sauce Gardner attempted to clear up any confusion about his age on the final day of minicamp. "I'm 24, by the way," Gardner said last week, according to ESPN's Stephen Holder. "It's crazy that I'm saying this once again," Gardner added. Multiple online sources, including Pro Football Reference, Pro Football Focus, and Yahoo Sports, have listed Gardner's birthdate as Aug. 31, 2000. However, the two-time Pro Bowler was actually born on Aug. 31, 2001.

Jonathan Toews is hanging up his skates. The future Hall of Fame center announced his retirement Friday, ending his 16-year career. The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Toews third overall in 2006, and he went on to captain the franchise to three Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013, and 2015. Toews won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010, posting 29 points in 22 playoff games. Considered one of the best two-way centers of his generation, Toews received the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward in 2013.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Former Providence basketball player Duncan Powell has been found not guilty of two misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged altercation with a woman in March. Powell had been charged with domestic violence-simple assault and/or battery and domestic violence-disturbing the peace. He was acquitted Wednesday after a three-day bench trial in Providence District Court, according to court records.

LONDON (AP) — French tennis player Corentin Moutet has been fined $40,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct after using profane language in a post-match interview at Queen’s Club this week, the men's tennis tour said Friday. Moutet used an expletive seven times during an on-court interview after a first-round win on Tuesday against countryman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the ATP 500 grass-court event in London, which serves as a tune-up before Wimbledon.

TORONTO (AP) — Toronto's Brittney Sykes suffered a plantar fascia injury on Tuesday, the team announced Friday and will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks. Sykes was hurt in a non-contact injury in the third quarter of the team's loss to Indiana on Tuesday. She was helped off the court. Sykes was the league’s third-leading scorer in averaging 20.7 points a game coming into the Fever matchup.
