Falcons' Penix cleared for team drills amid recovery from torn ACL

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been cleared to take part in team drills at training camp, head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Saturday, including ESPN's Marc Raimondi. Penix has only done individual and 7-on-7 workouts this summer. He'll begin 11-on-11 sessions when Atlanta practices Monday. That's considered Penix's final hurdle to clear in his recovery from a torn ACL suffered last November.

Report: Alabama names Russell starting QB

Alabama has named sophomore Keelon Russell its starting quarterback for the 2026 season, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. Russell beat out redshirt junior Austin Mack for the position. Both Russell and Mack were Ty Simpson's backups last season. Russell is a former five-star recruit and was the No. 2-ranked signal-caller in the 2025 class behind Michigan's Bryce Underwood, according to ESPN's 300. More to come.
