Jozef Puska has abandoned his murder conviction appeal. He’s currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Ashling Murphy in January 2022. Jozef Puska’s bid to overturn his conviction for murder was originally due to be heard in April, but was delayed after he discharged members of his legal team. Mr Puska appeared before the Court of Appeal this morning, where his barrister told Judge Isobel Kennedy he had abandoned his conviction appeal.

A status yellow high temperature warning has been issued for 12 counties. The alert impacts the midlands and south east from 1pm on Friday until 7am on Sunday. During that period, Met Éireann is warning of temperatures above 27 degrees Celsius, in Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. The forecaster is also predicting uncomfortable sleeping conditions at nighttime and a risk of heat stress.

Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler has died at the age of 75. Her family say they're heartbroken by her 'unexpected' death in hospital in Portugal last night. She was best known for hits including Holding out for a Hero and Total Eclipse of the Heart - which was nominated for a Grammy award. In a statement on her website, Ms Tyler's family said they are "heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for".
