I can't believe it has been 16 years since the 2008 Mackay Floods! I remember it like it was yesterday. I arrived at work at 3am, and thought the rain was heavy. It wasn't until people started calling through saying roads were closed and houses were flooding that i knew something bad was happening. I called my friend Jackie who at the time was living on Davey Street in Glenella to check that she was ok. She was still asleep when i rang her after 4am.

The great news this week; Long Weekend! The bad news…it continues to be a tragic summer. The Royal Life Saving Summer Drowning toll shows 62 people have drowned across Australia since summer started, a 19% increase on last summer. The very bad news… Research shows the risk of drowning increases on public holidays. With many people heading into a long weekend, Royal Life Saving is urging men to ‘Make the Right Call’ when they’re on, in, or near the water with their mates and families.
Red Hot Summer Tour postponed to April 27
We’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see Jimmy Barnes, The Living End, Birds of Tokyo in our backyard, with organisers of the Red Hot Summer Tour rescheduling next year’s event to April 27. FULL STATEMENT With Jimmy Barnes currently recovering from open heart surgery and unable to perform at the Red Hot Summer Tour shows in February these three events will be moved to April to give Jimmy time to fully recover.
