Corn futures are on the rise this week on the heels of nine days of higher highs. In my opinion, the demand for corn is going to drive prices higher this fall and into early next year. Sunday night, corn gapped higher and in my mind, that is very bullish.

Sneaker giant Nike (NKE) hasn't historically been known for dividends, which isn't surprising, as the company describes itself as a “growth company.” However, after a 77% drawdown in NKE from its November 2021 highs, the stock’s dividend yield has risen to 4%, near its all-time high.

Corn futures rounded out the Tuesday session with contracts up 7 ¾ to 10 ¼ cents on the session. All contracts closed the session over the $5 mark. The CmdtyView national average Cash Corn price was up another 9 cents at $4.71 1/2. Weekly Crop Progress data showed 86% of the US corn crop in the dough stage by August 23, with 45% dented and 6% listed as mature. Condition ratings were down 3% this week at 57% in good to excellent condition, as the Brugler500 index was down 5 points to 348.

Cotton futures saw lower trade on Tuesday with contracts pulling off the lows into the close, still down 27 to 46 points in most contracts. Crude oil was down $3.90, with the US dollar index $0.089 lower. Weekly Crop Progress data showed 81% of the US cotton setting bolls as of Sunday, with 20% of the crop with bolls opening. Condition ratings were pegged at 37% good/excellent, down 1 percentage points on the week. The Brugler500 index was down another 6 points to 304.

Live cattle futures were down 72 cents to $2.65 lower across most contracts on Tuesday. Cash trade picked up a few sales at $218 on Tuesday, down $7-8 from last week, with a few dressed sales of $345 in the north. Feeder cattle futures were down $4.70 to $5.65 across most contrats, with nearby August up 15 cents. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was down another $3.01 on August 24 to $335.46.

The wheat complex is showing mostly higher trade on Tuesday, pushing off early losses. Chicago SRW contracts were 3 ¾ to 8 ¾ cents higher across the board. KC HRW futures were 3 ½ to 7 ¾ cents in the green at the close. MPLS spring wheat was mixed with contracts down 1 ¼ to ¼ cent higher. On Monday, Ukraine’s President Zelensky stated there will be a diplomatic track with Russia in regard to the Black Sea attack.

Soybeans posted gains of 11 ½ to 14 cents across the board on Tuesday. The cmdtyView national average Cash Bean price was up 13 1/4 cents at $12.01. Soymeal futures were steady to $1.10 higher on the day, with Soy Oil back up 39 to 101 points. USDA reported a private export sale of 132,000 MT of soybeans to unknown destinations this morning. Weekly Crop Progress data from NASS showed 91% of the US soybean crop setting pods by 8/23, with 6% dropping leaves.
