Four-star guard Lucai Anderson is headed to Michigan, he announced today. Anderson is Michigan’s first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class and Mike Boynton Jr.’s first high school commitment since he was named head coach in July. Anderson is a 6-foot-5 guard, ranked in the top-100 in the class, with offers from Georgia Tech, UCF, USC, Texas Tech, Alabama and others. He visited UCF, USC and Michigan before pledging to the Wolverines.

In its first exhibition game on U.S. soil this season, Michigan handily defeated Eastern Michigan. The Wolverines built an 11-point lead by halftime and used a second-half explosion to beat the Eagles, 87-62. Michigan didn’t empty the playbook against Eastern Michigan, but it showed flashes of the style it wants to play in Mike Boynton Jr.’s first season as head coach. Arriving in Ann Arbor this summer at 6-foot-10 with a gangly physique to match, Quinn Costello looked like a player who needed more than a couple reps to find his balance. Clearly, the basketball talent was there; the only question was if his physical stature was going to allow him to compete right out of the gate. After the exhibition against Eastern Michigan, that question has a succinct answer: Yes. But it’s not as though Costello was ready on day one.

Michigan knocked off Eastern Michigan, 87-62, on Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor in its first of three preseason tuneups this October. It was choppy at points, in both directions, but that’s to be expected with early October basketball. No team is a finished product in October, and exhibition games have proven to mean very little when the real season rolls around.
