CULLMAN, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) - A woman accused of poisoning her husband was placed back in jail after accusations that she had contact with her husband and tried to poison him again. Sara Baker, a former Alabama attorney, was arrested in November 2025 after she was accused of putting fentanyl in her husband’s food and drink. She was arrested and later suspended by the Alabama Bar Association. Shortly after her first arrest, she posted a $400,000 bond.
Ex-dental assistant sentenced for sexually abusing children during X-rays
CHANDLER, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) — A former dental assistant has been sentenced for sexually abusing children who were under his care. According to Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, Deion Garcia, 29, will spend 40 years in prison with lifetime supervised probation as part of a plea deal. The investigation into Garcia began in May 2024, when Chandler police were told of sexual abuse that happened at Kidiatric Dental, a children’s dental office.
Troopers use ‘boxing’ tactic to stop runaway electric vehicle on highway
LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) — A Monday afternoon commute on the 215 Beltway in Las Vegas turned into a 14-mile emergency earlier this month after an electric vehicle began accelerating on its own, reaching speeds up to 90 mph with brakes that would not respond. Nevada State Police said the driver called 911 from the area of Rainbow Road on July 6. Dispatchers kept the driver on the phone, collecting continuous location updates while troopers and other agencies moved into position.
YooperFest Takes Center Stage in Escanaba

Wildfire rain to affect Upper Peninsula agriculture and forests
UPPER PENINSULA, Mich. (WLUC) - Recent rains have mixed with wildfire smoke and will be affecting Upper Peninsula gardens, farms and forests. The effects could be detrimental but also beneficial, says MSU Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center Director James DeDecker. He says it can affect growth and taste in fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Isle Royale business prevented from transporting visitors asking to leave
ISLE ROYALE, Mich. (WLUC) - The poor, smoky air quality continues to affect the U.P., including visitors to Isle Royale National Park. “When people need the help, that’s exactly what we’re there for,” U.P. Adventure Company Owner and Captain Lacy Cygan said. Cygan says she is concerned for visitors to Isle Royale National Park due to the poor air quality. While not a transportation service, Cygan says the business does provide transport to the island when no other means are available.
Annual fishing derby kicks off in Republic
REPUBLIC, Mich. (WLUC) - It’s a big weekend in Republic for fishing and fun on the Michigamme River. Anglers are making their way to Munson Park to get pre-registered. Organizers say this is a sizable fishing event luring up to 500 fishermen of all ages. Prizes for many types of fish will be awarded during the two-day event. The weekend will be filled with music and raffles of great prizes. Charlie Gibson has been attending this event for 27 years. He says he loves to fish the Michigamme.
‘Life has stopped’: Mother loses 4 children, grandmother to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - An Ohio mother is mourning the loss of her four young children and their grandmother, who have died following suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Adriana Coleman says her children, Liberty, Storm, Legacy and Stone, and their grandmother, 36-year-old Candace McAllister, were killed earlier this week. Investigators said carbon monoxide filled a vehicle where the family was sitting while they were waiting for help with a flat tire.
Scouting Carries on at Camp Hiawatha
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Scouts from all across the Midwest have traveled to upper Michigan this week. They are visiting the only Scouts of America Camp in the U.P. Scouts spend seven days and six nights experiencing the outdoors and everything that comes with it. From cooking and eating outside, to hiking trails, swimming in the lake and sleeping in tents, campers are completely with nature the entirety of their stay.
