This monthly report contains crop production data for the U.S., including acreage, area harvested, and yield. Wheat, fruits, nuts, and hops are the specific crops included in the report, but data on planted and harvested crop area are also included. There is also a strong focus on maple syrup, as the report details production, value, season dates, and percent of sales by type.

Veterinarian shortages in both food-animal and mixed-animal practices have persisted across many rural areas for over a decade. Programs like the USDA’s Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) work to address service gaps and overcome a longstanding difficulty in recruiting and retaining veterinarians.

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) has modified a New World screwworm (NWS) infested zone in Texas, with concurrence from USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). This action comes after state and federal subject matter experts confirmed that portions of the area met requirements outlined in APHIS’ New World Screwworm Response Playbook for zone release.

This marks a significant milestone: the first NWS infested zones to be released in Texas since the first case was detected in Texas on June 3.
