Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins made an announcement on Wednesday night. "We have confirmed a first official case of New World Screwworm in Texas." With confirmation from USDA national animal disease facilities in Iowa, the secretary provided details on the NWS case confirmation. "Detection of New World Screwworm in a three-week-old calf in La Pryor, Texas. It is the only case that we are tracking right now and the only one that has been confirmed," Rollins said.

Stay food safe to start the summer grilling season

USDA’s Food Safety Expert Meredith Carothers said with the warmer weather, it’s important to protect against food safety risks. She said the two-hour rule about leaving perishable food outside and not in a refrigerator still applies in avoiding foodborne illness. "When temperatures are above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, that time actually reduces to only one hour," Carothers said.
