The USGA is a nonprofit organization that celebrates, serves, and advances the game of golf. Founded in 1894, we conduct many of golf’s premier professional and amateur championships, including the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open. With The R&A, we govern the sport via a global set of playing, equipment, handicapping, and amateur status rules. The USGA campus in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, is home to the Association’s Research and Test Center, where science and innovation fuel a healthy and sustainable game for the future. The campus is also home to the USGA Golf Museum, where we honor the game by curating the world’s most comprehensive archive of golf artifacts. Source

1956 U.S. Women’s Open Champion Kathy Cornelius Dies at 93
Kathy Cornelius, who won the 1956 U.S. Women’s Open at Northland Country Club in Duluth, Minn., died on Sept. 28, 2026, at the age of 93. Cornelius and her younger daughter, Kay, the 1981 U.S. Girls’ Junior champion, are the only mother-daughter pair in history to win USGA championships. Born in Boston, Mass., Kathy (nèe McKinnon) moved to Florida in junior high, where she started playing golf at the age of 13.

World Golf Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2027 Finalists Final Class of 2027 to be announced in December, with induction ceremony set for July 12 in St Andrews during The Open Championship. The World Golf Hall of Fame announced 14 finalists for its Class of 2027 across four categories. The inductees will be selected later this year, with the induction ceremony set for July 2027 in St Andrews, Scotland.
