September 21, 2026 In commemoration of Mexican Independence Day, the Language and Humanities Social Center at Riverside City College served students with a historical presentation that went over how and why it is still important for us to celebrate here in America on Sept. 16. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, RCC honors the history of its Hispanic students through on-campus support including academic programs and numerous celebrations throughout the school year.

The Riverside City College women’s volleyball team opened its home schedule with a 3-1 victory over Cypress College on Sept. 18 at Wheelock Gym. RCC won the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19 before Cypress took the third set 31-29 to extend the match. The Tigers responded in the fourth set and closed out the match with a 25-21 win. The Tigers’ serving and blocking played major roles in the victory.

The U.S. House passed the Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act of 2026 (H.R. 4795) by a vote of 237-169 on the House floor Sept. 3. The bill proposed that any colleges or institutions that participate in academic or economic boycotts of Israel be barred from federal funding. The bill was supported mainly by Republicans; only two of whom voted “nay.” Thirteen Republican representatives did not vote.

The Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees approved a memorandum of understanding with Keck Graduate Institute regarding a Doctor of Pharmacy partnership program during the last board meeting Sept. 15. The partnership between RCCD and KGI will allow RCCD students to transfer to KGI’s School of Pharmacy as part of their Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education KGI Doctor of Pharmacy – PharmD Program.

September 17, 2026 Jose Osuna-Tisnado is a 20-year-old Riverside City College student who is making history as the youngest person on the ballot for the upcoming Perris City Council election on Nov. 4. The District 3 resident has built his campaign on advocating for sustainability and protecting his community against warehouse construction. “I did cross country in high school, and as I would run I saw first hand, boots on the ground, the environment,” Osuna-Tisnado said.

History in the United States has shown a lack of attention towards women’s mental health and the past few weeks of the Lindsay Clancy trial concerning the liability for the killing of her children, it’s clear that a modern day push toward a more inclusive system, there are still major flaws that need to be reformed.

More than 1,000 fans packed Riverside City College’s Wheelock Stadium on Sept. 11 to watch the latest chapter of the rivalry. “It’s a fun rivalry game. I’m proud of our boys and how they’ve handled it every year,” King head coach, Jason McMains, said. “Poly comes out and gives it their best.” He added.

In contemporary higher education, not all majors are treated as equal. Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields are consistently at the top of an implicit ranking of value, while fields in Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences (LHSS) are positioned as supplementary and impractical. This hierarchy is not accidental. It is the product of a long-standing alignment between university funding priorities and the United States perverted fixation on militarism and capitalism.

The No. 2-ranked Riverside City College defeated unranked College of the Canyons 64-10 at Wheelock Stadium for its third consecutive victory and highest-scoring game of the season on Sept. 12. Tigers quarterback Christopher Cooper scored five touchdowns in his second game of the season. He completed 23 of 33 passes for 323 yards and rushed for two touchdowns. In his previous game against Golden West, Cooper also found the end zone twice on his feet.
