There’s one more game sneaking in before the end of July (then August is a little quiet until the end of the month), and that’s Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. If you’re a diehard fan, you’ve probably already bought the Upgrade Pack from the eShop. But if you’ve yet to get into Xenoblade and this is your first step, this is the version you’ll want.

It’s a bummer when you miss out on a limited-time Tetris 99 theme. Luckily, the game has brought back previous themes at various points in time, and now is one of those times. Until August 17th, 2026, you can unlock some of the Tetris 99 themes from the past that haven’t been available since they first appeared. The best part is that they now cost only 2 in-game tickets instead of the usual 10 (they’re normally 30 tickets during the original event).

Square Enix is on a roll with the Switch 2, and next month (which is only three days away), Final Fantasy XIV Online is making its way to the console. Pre-orders are available now, and there are a variety of different editions to choose from, as well as the game’s newest expansion. But say you’ve never played Final Fantasy XIV Online before and just want to try it out. The good news is you can play up to level 80 for free.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse has had a weird rollout. First, it wasn’t announced for the Switch alongside the other consoles, even though it’s launching on October 15th, 2026. Now, thanks to Konami’s love of tables, we know the game will only run at 30 FPS on the Switch, compared to the other platforms. This is in line with Motion Twin’s other games.

The LEGO Donkey Kong Arcade set was officially revealed this week after months of teasing and leaks, and it’ll be in stores next week! We think this will be one of those sets that gets heavily discounted toward Christmas, as it’s the perfect gift at this price point for a lot of people. Big W has already opened the floodgates with a great price. We’ll keep this one updated and add more stores as we spot them. For now, though, only a handful of retailers have it listed because it’s still so new.

The days are starting to get longer, and the game releases are starting back up again. We had a couple of quiet weeks, but now it’s back to the grind. The big release this week is Splatoon Raiders. If you haven’t already, you should read Ollie’s great review of it. Square is really hopeful you’re wanting to play FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster again on the Switch 2 and pay full price for it as well. I’m not sure what’s behind Square’s upgrade decisions, but here we are.

Nintendo has released an overview trailer for the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. As well as the graphical upgrades you’d expect, including 60 FPS, 4K resolution when docked and 1080p in handheld mode, the game is also adding some new content. Both Pyra and Mythra are getting new outfits, which can be obtained through the new Merc Assault mode. In this mode, you directly take control of Blades and can pick up to six for each mission.

3D platformers have been making a resurgence for a little while now. Everyone who played them as a kid and loved them seems to want to make one using today’s technology. We’ve learned a lot since the peak of the genre, so it should be easy to make one without any problems. However, sometimes we forget that the things that were annoying in the past still are. Developed by New Zealand-based Eat Pant Games, it’s a treat to hear a Kiwi accent in a game; they don’t turn up often enough.

As suspected, it’s a LEGO recreation of the original Donkey Kong arcade machine.
