WAMC-FM (90.3 FM) is a listener-supported non-commercial radio station in Albany, New York. It airs a public radio format focusing on news and talk with some specialty music shows on weekends. Owned by "WAMC Northeast Public Radio", it has its studios on Central Avenue in Albany and its transmitter is atop Mount Greylock in Adams, Massachusetts.[2] Its primary signal encompasses the Capital District, Eastern New York State, Southern Vermont, Western Massachusetts and the Litchfield Hills region of Connecticut. Hochul, saying the “people of the state deserve to know”, says she is launching an independent analysis of every aspect of the decision-making process during the pandemic to find out what worked and what did not.
Bill introduced to repeal New York's HALT Act
New York state Senator Dan Stec led a group of Republican legislators in Albany Tuesday calling for the repeal of solitary confinement limits. The state legislature passed the Humane Alternatives to Long-Term Solitary Confinement Act, known as HALT, last year. It limits the use of solitary and segregated confinement and implements alternative rehabilitation. On Tuesday Republican Dan Stec of the 45th district was joined by other members of the GOP to announce legislation to repeal the HALT Act.
Vermont Commissioner of Public Safety leaving for university position
Vermont’s Commissioner of Public Safety has stepped down to become the University of Vermont’s new safety chief. Governor Phil Scott announced on Tuesday that Department of Public Safety Commissioner Michael Schirling will leave his position on June 18th to take a senior role at the University of Vermont. The college subsequently announced Schirling has been appointed its Chief Safety and Compliance Officer.
Burlington City Council discusses redistricting map options at latest meeting
The Burlington, Vermont City Council reviewed new redistricting maps for the city at its Monday meeting. Burlington councilors had requested the planning department draft redistricting maps outlining seven, eight or twelve wards with caveats that include keeping distinct the Old and New North End of the city. After city planners presented the new proposed maps, councilors engaged in an extended discussion on their benefits and drawbacks. The UVM campus currently dominates Ward 8.
NY AG James sues Albany Diocese over St. Clare’s pension
New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany over the St. Clare’s Hospital pension shortfall. She made the announcement Tuesday outside Ellis Health Center in Schenectady. James, a Democrat, announced the lawsuit on behalf of 1,100 former St. Clare's Hospital employees who lost some or part of their pensions after the hospital merged with Ellis Hospital and the 60-year-old pension fund was terminated in 2019. Trash incineration plant closes for good
A regional trash incinerator that operated in greater Springfield, Massachusetts for more than 30 years has been permanently shut down. The decommissioning of the trash incinerator at Bondi’s Island in Agawam has made the air cleaner for all but left some with higher bills for the disposal of their solid waste. A bankruptcy sale resulted in the facility changing hands last month.
