The August disaster “was not just a local tragedy. It was a warning to the world. And I ask you today: Have you really heard that warning?” Nepali Prime Minister Balendra Shah said at the U.N. ROME (AP) — Italy’s government passed a decree Thursday to place an upper limit on the number of students in each school classroom who have only limited Italian language skills and to ban face-covering Islamic veils in schools. Premier Giorgia Meloni’s conservative government said the package is aimed at strengthening integration through language learning and has drawn support from right-wing allies.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's administration asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to again clear the way for continued quick deportations of immigrants to third countries where they have no ties. The appeal comes after lower courts found that people must have the chance to object before the U.S. government deports them to countries other than their homelands. The justices previously allowed the deportation flights to temporarily continue when the case came before them last year.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN)......A pair of North Buffalo apartment buildings - constructed at the same time and neighbor each other - have been acquired by a local investment group. Shone Striders LLC paid $1.895 million for what amounts to 24 apartments - spread among two buildings. The complex that dates back to 1940, and is located at 1941-1945 Hertel Avenue and near Shoshone Park, had been owned by local investor Jason Wiseman.

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WBEN)......The economic development ripple effects from IMA Life North America opening a 120,000-square-foot plant in the Town of Tonawanda has the potential run deep. IMA Life, part of the Italian-based IMA Group, invested nearly $34 million to build the complex that doubles as office space and its North American headquarters and an advanced life sciences production center whose clients include such big pharma clients as Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.

(WBEN) - The City of Buffalo has partnered with National Grid to launch a new initiative called "City of Light" that will replace downed streetlight poles and restore lighting in neighborhoods across the city. The partnership addresses a backlog of more than 500 downed poles, while establishing a streamlined process for future replacement of poles in the city.
