In an attempt to fight fire with fire, the city of Pittsburgh has filed an antitrust lawsuit against several fire apparatus manufacturers. A fire apparatus, or truck, is a specialized vehicle used by fire departments to fight flames and ensure public safety. The city alleges that mergers between manufacturers are stifling competition — increasing prices, decreasing output and hurting taxpayers.

While the fate of Pennsylvania’s longstanding ban on using Medicaid to cover abortions makes its way back to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, reproductive health providers are urging the state to allow coverage while the appeals process continues to play out. In April, the Commonwealth Court overturned the ban in a 4 to 3 ruling with the majority opinion deeming it unconstitutional. The court ruled that the state cannot single out abortion for exclusion while funding comparable medical care.
