George Lombard Jr. has barely been in the major leagues for a week, but he is already taking on a leadership role in the Yankee clubhouse as the team tries to fight its way out of its collective offensive funk.

The Yankees are reportedly making what would be their most anticipated call-up of the season, as Jack Curry of the YES Network reports that George Lombard Jr. is being promoted to the majors. The Yankees top prospect has been a name fans have been clamoring for since the start of the season, especially with the offensive struggles at the shortstop position, with the likes of Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero underperforming for much of the year.

Brian Cashman spoke with reporters after Monday's trade deadline passed, a deadline that many Yankee fans considered underwhelming, perhaps one of the more disappointing outcomes in Cashman's nearly three decades as general manager. With clear needs at catcher, multiple infield spots, and in the bullpen, the Yanks walked away with just Luis Garcia Jr. and Eliot Ramos, the former a first baseman, and the latter an outfielder.

The Yankees are reportedly finalizing a trade to acquire Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Bombers went into Monday's deadline day in need of right-handed offense, and Ramos will at least provide some semblance of an upgrade. The 26-year-old is batting .264 with nine home runs and a .728 OPS in 288 at-bats this season. According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees will part with prospects Henry Lalane and Kaeden Kent.

The Yankees are reportedly acquiring some much-needed offense with just over 24 hours to go until the trade deadline. According to Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic, the Yanks and Nationals are "trending" towards a trade that would send Luis Garcia Jr. to the Bronx. Joel Sherman of the New York Post also reported a link between the two teams and Garcia at the center of a potential deal.

The Yankees announced Saturday afternoon that they have acquired minor league catcher Omar Alfonzo and minor league outfielder Luis Cruz from the Pirates in exchange for reliever Camilo Doval and cash considerations. Doval was acquired at the trade deadline from the Giants last season, but his lack of command diminished his lively arm. He struggled mightily against lefties this season, pitching to a 4.54 ERA in 39.2 innings of work so far this season.

The Mets expected fire sale has reportedly begun. According to multiple reports, New York has dealt reliever A.J. Minter to the Twins for a pair of prospects, one of them being Bruin Agbayani, son of former Met Benny Agbayani. Billy Amick is the other Minnesota prospect going back to Queens. The third baseman was with the Twins Double-A affiliate at the time of the trade. Agbayani, 19, is a former sixth-round pick who has been limited in the minors since being drafted in 2025 due to injury.

Excitement for a Week 1 start for Malik Nabers was tempered on Thursday when Malik Nabers told reporters that there is "no target date" for his return from knee surgery. The Giants young star was running routes at the start of Giants training camp, leading many fans to marvel at how improved he looked compared to his controversial appearance at a charity softball game earlier this summer. But Nabers slowed down the return hype after camp on Thursday.

The Yankees appeared headed to a third straight win on Wednesday night after two sparkling defensive plays by Paul Goldschmidt and Ryan McMahon put New York one out away from an extra-innings victory in Chicago. Instead, an unthinkable hiccup from catcher Ali Sanchez set the Yanks up for perhaps their worst loss of the season, and furthered their chronic struggles in extra innings.

The Yankees have announced the full list of alumni that will be attending Old Timer's Day on Aug. 8 at Yankee Stadium. Highlights include heroes of the 1990s dynasty such as Bernie Williams, Mariano Rivera, Tino Martinez, Joe Torre, David Cone, Paul O'Neill, Orlando Hernandez, and Jorge Posada. Other World Series heroes like Luis Sojo, Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon will also be on hand.
