The Robert Hassell III era is officially over in the Nats organization. Washington announced Thursday that they have traded Hassell III to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Hassell III, 24, was designated for assignment on July 5 when the Nationals called up pitcher Eddy Yean, and at the time was hitting .215 with a .593 OPS, two homers, and 21 RBI in 63 games at Triple-A Rochester.

AJ Dybantsa has been impressive in his NBA debut over the first couple Summer League games…but we’ll have to wait until October to see him on the court again. Wizards Summer League coach T.J. Sorrentine told The Athletic’s Josh Robbins that Dybantsa, as well as Tre Johnson and Will Riley, have been shut down for the remainder of summer play, “It’s a culmination of camp all the way through the games,” Sorrentine told Robbins. “It’s not just what (everyone’s) seen on TV.

A family affair in the 2026 MLB Draft: with their eighth-round pick, the Yankees selected Luke Pettitte, the third son of Andy. Luke, who turned 21, was drafted as a two-way player out of Dallas Baptist; he is considered to have some of the best command of pitchers in the class, but Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2025 knocked out any chance he had of pitching in 2026.
