Governor Meyer has signed an Executive Order establishing the Office of the Surgeon General within the Department of Health and Social Services and appointed Dr Neil Hockstein to the position. Delaware is now the seventh state in the nation to establish a state-level surgeon general.

Rather than searching multiple websites, this new portal brings together school information, attendance boundaries, school profile and performance information and interactive mapping tools – in one place! Explore Delaware Schools makes public information more transparent, more accessible, and easier to use.

July 13, 2026/Mari Lou An investigation begun by the Talbot County Sheriff’s office in November of 2025 has resulted in the arrest of a 30 year old Queen Anne, MD man for child abuse. Investigators learned that on November 19, 2025, Shayan Latif was awakened by his 8-day old child around 5am – and he noticed the child’s head was swollen and the child was lethargic.

July 13, 2026/Mari Lou I guess it was too much to hope we would have both weekend days with good weather as Sunday saw rough water on the ocean and Delaware Bay. Dan at Dan’s Tackle said Broadkill Beach was crowded, but still produced spot and croaker on bloodworms and Fishbites. Lewes Harbour Marina reported no boats left their docks, but a few small boats fished the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal and caught croaker.

July 13, 2026/Mari Lou Two people were injured, including an Maryland State Trooper, in a crash just east of the Berlin Barracks Sunday night around 8:30. Maryland State Police say a Land Rover, driven by a 16 year old male was northbound on Route 818 and attempting to cross Route 50. He failed to yield for oncoming traffic and struck the eastbound marked trooper’s patrol vehicle. The trooper was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and flown to a local trauma center.

July 12, 2026/Mari Lou Supporting small business is Governor Meyer’s goal with the launch of the Delaware Commercial Corridor Initiative. This new statewide program is designed to help small businesses improve storefronts, buildings and operations while working to revitalize downtown and commercial districts. Gov. Meyer says the Division of Small Business will invest $4.5-million in state Strategic Fund dollars to help existing brick and mortar small businesses – the backbone of Delaware’s economy.

July 12, 2026/Mari Lou For once we had good weather on a weekend day and that resulted in some good fishing. Dan at Dan’s Tackle told us spot and croaker were caught from shore at Broadkill Beach on bloodworms and Fishbites. The Broadkill River saw croaker caught on Fishbites. Lewes Harbour Marina said the head boats Angler and Pirate King had good numbers of croaker from Delaware Bay.
