Ocean City, MD Police Officer on Administrative Leave Amid Delaware State Police Investigation
July 16, 2026/Joe Ciccanti The Ocean City Police Department has been informed that Corporal Benjamin Berry is involved in an investigation being handled by the Delaware State Police. Corporal Benjamin Berry was placed on administrative leave with pay for an unrelated internal matter at the beginning of June. Upon learning of the Delaware State Police’s Investigation, a second administrative investigation was opened within the last week.
Worcester County Encourages Residents Awaiting Tax Bills to Use Online and In-Person Options
July 15, 2026/Joe Ciccanti Worcester County Government is aware that some property owners have not yet received their 2026–2027 real estate tax bills by mail and is actively working to determine the cause. Property owners who have not yet received a bill do not need to wait for a mailed copy to review or pay their taxes. Tax bills are available online through the Worcester County Government website at www.worcestermd.gov.

July 15, 2026/Joe Ciccanti Thursday, July 16th is a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day in Delaware as smoke from Canadian wildfires combines with extreme heat to create unhealthy air for sensitive groups. DNREC Officials say smoke will increase throughout the day, with a dense plume expected Thursday evening as a cold front moves through.
Governor Moore Announces $20 Million for Maryland Waterway Improvement Projects
July 15, 2026/Joe Ciccanti Governor Wes Moore has announced that twenty-four public boating projects across Maryland will receive $20 million in state funding to support new and improved boating access, dredging of navigable waterways, boating safety, and other infrastructure initiatives. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will provide the Fiscal Year 2027 funding, which includes $13 million from the Waterway Improvement Fund and $7 million in General Obligation Bond funding.

OHS Releases DUI Checkpoint Results, Reinforces Ongoing Efforts to Reduce Impaired Driving
July 15, 2026/Joe Ciccanti The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS) has announced the results of a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint held on Friday, July 10th in Sussex County. The chekpoint was conducted in partnership with the Delaware State police and local law enforcement agencies across the state. A total of 983 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, resulting in four DUI arrests.
Talk of Delmarva Fishing Report 07/15/26
July 15, 2026/Mari Lou Tuesday the weather turned warmer and the fishing remained good. Dan at Dan’s Tackle was having phone problems so I may not have everything correct, but he recorded a Delaware Sheepshead Citation for a 10.90 pounder caught by Mato Castillo at the Ice Breakers. He also said croaker and spot were caught were caught from Broadkill Beach on Fishbites and croaker were caught out of the Broadkill River.

July 14, 2026/Mari Lou Image courtesy Sussex County Government UPDATED – 07/14/26 – The Sussex County Council met Tuesday after a break for the July 4th holiday. Manager of Accounting, Andrea Wall, came to the Council bearing funding from the Federal Government to the tune of $38,898. This money comes from the US Department of the Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service, as a federal payment in lieu of taxes for the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge.
