White Bear Lake (3-1) pulled out a 4-3 win over Prior Lake (2-2) at home Tuesday evening, getting goals from Ellyse Oelker, Vanessa Fyksen, Grace Weierke, and Piper Heinsohn. Alexa Paradise made two assists, and Heinsohn and Fyksen one each. The Bears used two goals with Ali Ellison stopping five of seven shots and Hayden Law one of three.

Mahtomedi lost by inches to Mankato West 31-28 in the football opener Friday night, giving up a touchdown with 30 seconds left after taking the lead on a 79-yard pass play in Mankato. The Zephyrs, who had trailed 17-7, led 28-24 after Jaxon Mitchell scored on a pass from Trevor Rogosheske on a play that started on the 21-yard line, midway through the fourth quarter.

The White Bear Lake boys placed ninth of 22 teams in the season opening Rosemount Irish Invitational on Friday. In the two-mile race, Lachlan Ellison led the Bears in 49th place in 11:24. Cameron Wolters was 61st in 11:34, Parker Hoel 64th in 11:39, Rylan Anderson 66th in 11:40 and Daniel Arrowood 74th in 11:44.

The Mahtomedi boys placed 19th of 22 teams and the girls were 13th of 16 teams in the season opening Rosemount Irish Invitational on Friday. In the two-mile race, Zephyr junior Parker Maas placed ninth among the boys in 10:35. Zephyr sophomore Giada Garrity was 27th among the girls in 13:30 with Quinn Griffith 67th in 14:43.

Mahtomedi nabbed its first win 3-1 over St. Paul Highland Park on Wednesday. The scores were 25-12, 25-22, 16-25, 25-18. Abby Nyquest notched 12 kills, and Mackenna Feustal five kills and four blocks for the Zephyrs (1-2). On Monday, Chisago Lakes beat them 25-20, 35-33, 16-25, 26-24. McKenna Korus made 33 digs, Anna Hynes 10 kills and Margo Kiely nine kills and three blocks

White Bear Lake won its dual meet opener against Park 105-75 on Thursday. Event winners were Eva Hoefer (200 freestyle, backstroke), Charlotte McIntyre (individual medley, butterfly), Audrey Borofka (50 and 100 freestyle), Anna Zarambo (diving), Sophie Collins (500 freestyle), and the 200 freestyle relay with McIntyre, Hoefer, Anna Miller and Borofka,

White Bear Lake scored a defensive touchdown in the first minute, then unleashed a mighty offense the rest of the way and defeated Park 48-28 in the football opener Thursday evening. RJ Stuckey picked off a pass on Park’s second play from scrimmage at Cottage Grove and had clear sailing to the end zone for a 33-yard touchdown. Stuckey also had a 55-yard kickoff return to start the second half. Brian White III pounded Park for 211 yards on 15 carries with touchdowns of 21, 10, and 68 yards.

A group of scouts presented White Bear Lake Area Historical Society Executive Director Sara Markoe Hanson with an award for her role in preserving women’s stories during a recent First in Nation Suffrage Celebration at the Armory.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported the following selected calls for service in Birchwood Village, Dellwood, Grant, Mahtomedi, Pine Springs and Willernie: Dellwood • Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a motorist for DUI July 26 on Dellwood Road and Dellwood Avenue, after pulling the driver over for illegal U-turn, speeding and expired registration. During the traffic stop, deputies noticed the odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage.
