For better or worse, depending on your mood and how long you have the radio on, you will hear Arlo Guthrie’s Alice’s Restaurant Massacree (the real name) a few times on WMNF on Thanksgiving. The song, written 55 years ago, based on true events (to a degree) from 57 years ago, is a probably the most famous Thanksgiving song. Guthrie has said that it took him a year to write the song.

It will be available to the public starting Friday, November 25th of 2022 to April 30th of 2023. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Hank Hine, Executive Director of The Dali. As reported by the Dali Museum, The Shape of Dreams reviews over 500 years of paintings from the 16th century to the 20th century.

Since the Covid pandemic, more than 1 million people in Tampa Bay are food insecure. Every Thanksgiving season, MidPoint highlights issues of food insecurity and we look for “the helpers” in our community who make a difference. Today, we met Cindy Vann, Engagement Director, and Erica Leigh, Communications and Marketing Director from Meals on Wheel Tampa, along with Rebecca Fiore, a “super-volunteer” for MOW.

As the possibility of a nationwide rail strike looms over the holidays, and ongoing strikes by workers in multiple industries across the country continue, there is another impending strike threat closer to home in Central Florida. Last week, over 200 food service workers at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida voted unanimously to authorize a strike, which could occur as soon as December 1.

We discussed invasive species. About the show Invasive species threaten Florida’s wildlife, crops, natural areas and even people. The cost to control just invasive plants in Florida’s natural areas and waterways alone runs to $30 million annually.

The case Warren vs. DeSantis goes to trial on November 29, 2022. In August 2022, Governor Ron DeSantis suspended the elected State Attorney in Hillsborough County, Andrew Warren. Warren sued DeSantis and there was a hearing Monday, September 19 in Tallahassee. The next day, Warren spoke on WMNF’s Tuesday Café, with host Seán Kinane. This is an encore presentation of that show. Monday’s court hearing in Warren vs. DeSantis Recording was not allowed in the courtroom.

According to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the community was invited to watch an LGBTQ Pride parade in downtown Venice.
