OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –┬áIt was a hot and hazy afternoon around the region, and today the humidity level was ramped up a bit, making it feel like it’s in the 90s in some areas. There also continues to be a haze in the skies as the smoke from fires in Canada is transported into our area by the flow around high pressure to our northwest. The smoke could cause some difficulties for people with breathing issues, but for now the air quality is not adversely affected.
Summers County Sheriff’s Office has charged two people with allegedly planning to deliver narcotics
Summers County, WV (WOAY) – The Summers County Sheriff’s Office has charged two people with allegedly planning to deliver drugs. Wednesday afternoon, during proactive patrols, Sheriff Justin Faris saw what appeared to be a suspected narcotics transaction and started an investigation. This led to Ernie Cook and Tiffany Cales being taken into custody. Dupites found suspected fentanyl, marijuana, and a large amount of U.S. currency.
West Virginia Department of Agriculture will conduct aerial treatment for black flies next week
Oak Hill, WV (WOAY) – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture will conduct aerial treatment for black flies on the Greenbrier, New, and Bluestone rivers next week. USDA may halt Mt. Hope RV park project
Mt. Hope, WV (WOAY) This Tuesday at Mount Hope’s city hall meeting, many concerned citizens attended for an update on the town’s contentious plans to build an RV park on flood buyout land in Bailey’s Bottom. The elephant in the room: a letter sent to the city of Mt. Hope on July 7th from the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service. The NRCS wanted to remind the city that the purpose of the buyout program is to restore floodplains to natural conditions.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Investigating major theft in Charleston
Charleston, WV (WOAY) The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help after a side-by-side and several firearms were stolen from the Hunter Road area of Charleston. Deputies say the theft happened sometime between July 6 and July 9. The stolen vehicle is a gray, black, and orange 2018 Can-Am Commander XT. Investigators say the thieves also took six rifles, five pistols, a crossbow, ammunition, multiple tools, credit cards, and other valuable items.
Suspect Killed Following Officer-Involved Shooting in Chelyan
Chelyan, WV (WOAY) A stabbing investigation in Kanawha County ended with an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday morning. Deputies say they responded to a Par Mar convenience store in Chelyan after a man entered the business suffering from an apparent stab wound. Investigators quickly identified a suspect who had barricaded himself inside a nearby residence.
