OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It was a calm day today around the region, quite a change from the storms that rolled through the area yesterday. Some parts of Raleigh County picked up more than 6″ of rain in only a few hours, according to the estimates from our Doppler Radar. The band of heavy rainfall accumulations stretched into parts of Wyoming County as well along with other counties outside of the viewing area. That has left standing water on some of the side roads.

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) –¬†We are tracking strong to severe storms that are moving through the region this evening. Most of the storms are moving to the east or east-northeast at around 30 miles per hour. The speed that the storms are moving was helping us a bit, but the combination of heavy rain from last week and training rain (meaning rain that moved over the same areas multiple times) has led to possible flash flooding in some areas tonight.

OAK HILL, WV (WOAY) – It has been a nice day around southern West Virginia, a break from the heavy rain and strong storms that rolled through the region yesterday. Some parts of the area saw around 3″ of rain, especially in Tazewell County. Despite the rain, there was no flooding reported to the National Weather Service offices that cover our area, which shows how dry it’s been and how steady the rain was. We continue to be in severe drought around most of the area.
