The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the right-handed pitcher in the fourth round of the MLB draft last weekend. Selected No. 132 overall, the Tampa native was assigned a slot value of $575,300.

Gators’ Kiyomi McMiller, Aurora Almón Compete in FIBA Women’s AmeriCup
Two Florida women’s basketball players are getting in extra reps ahead of the upcoming season. Gators forward Aurora Almón and guard Kiyomi McMiller are competing in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2027 Centrobasket Qualifiers for the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, respectively. The two teammates squared off Wednesday, as Nicaragua fell to the Dominican Republic, 90-54. McMiller recorded 24 points and eight rebounds, while Almón scored six points and snagged 12 rebounds.

Grier announced his retirement Wednesday and shared an Instagram carousel with photos from his playing days with the Dallas Cowboys, West Virginia and Florida. “Retired today,” he said in the photo caption.

Newberry baseball coach Mike Spina first saw flashes of power from Tavis Honeycutt, his nephew and Newberry infielder, at 10 years old during a tournament in Cooperstown, New York, where he launched 10 home runs, competing against the top 12-year-olds in the nation. Honeycutt’s parents knew he had a knack for going yard even earlier at 2 years old. “We had those little red tees with the white wiffle balls and the red bat,” Honeycutt said.

Former Gators football coach Billy Napier received the first annual payment of his $20 million buyout Wednesday. The former coach will receive $2.65 million annually from the University of Florida through July 15, 2029.
Gators Pitching Trio Shines as Team USA Falls to Japan in Championship
The trio of Gators who headed to Taiwan with USA Baseball are heading back across the pond championship-less. Florida pitchers Aidan King, Jackson Barberi and Joshua Whritenour were all selected the USA Baseball Collegiate team together, and made their debuts in the World Collegiate Baseball Championship final loss against Japan together. King came into the game first, pitching two scoreless innings during the fifth and sixth.

Caglianone had big shoes to fill, being the first Gator to appear in the event in two years, following former Gators star Pete Alonso, who won in 2019 and 2021.
