Megan Banta
VerifiedMegan Banta’s Biography
I'm a Hoosier by birth but now a Utahn (and formerly a Michigander and Oregonian).
I graduated from Franklin College (Go Griz!) in 2014 and reported on government and politics for close to three years. After covering the 2016 election, I switched to marketing for a little more than a year to help with family medical issues, but my love of journalism pulled me back to newspapers.
I covered a little bit of everything -- ongoing issues at Michigan State University related to former sports medicine doctor and convicted sex offender Larry Nassar, health employees behaving badly, issues at area hospitals, federal cases against local municipalities and major local lawsuits -- in Lansing before moving to Eugene, Oregon to cover city and county government and then to Salt Lake City
My current coverage focuses on using data to find problems and talk to experts, advocates and people impacted by the problem about solutions.
In my spare time, I read a LOT, binge Netflix like a stereotypical Millennial and get outside as much as I can. I love to hike and relax on the beach.
