What was your first job as a journalist?

Third grade reporter, the Panther Paw Press, Pine Crest Elementary School, Boca Raton, Florida.

How is social media changing news?

It's letting people pick and choose what they want to read, which is great for niche media but may be dangerous for news as public service.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Essentials: Wordpress, Time Inc's content management system. Others: Google Reader, Twitter, Chartbeat, Campfire chat, Omniture

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of running the TIME.com homepage on Election Night. Seeing the buzz in the newsroom was what I went to journalism school for.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

#1: Use Twitter, but don't be obnoxious about it. #2: Pitch a lot, but don't be obnoxious about it.
