Melanie Eversley’s Biography

Melanie Eversley is executive editor of NABJ Black News & Views, a site founded by the National Association of Black Journalists. She manages a staff of six. Before taking on this leadership role, she was a freelance journalist for The Guardian, Fortune, The Undefeated (now Andscape), NBC News, National Geographic, The Grio, Diverse Issues in Higher Education and more. She has worked in the industry for more than 35 years. She was one of the inaugural reporters on the breaking news desk at USA Today, where she was on staff for 13 years. Melanie also is former Washington correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Detroit Free Press. She is launching a startup, Beyond the Railroad, focused on issues of race and culture throughout New York State and more. She has won multiple awards for her work, including the Ethel Payne Fellowship for reporting from Africa. Melanie is an honors graduate from Columbia Journalism School and an alum of Oberlin College.
