What was your first job as a journalist?
Writing for a print publication called Campus X Magazine. It was distributed at colleges and universities across Canada.
How is social media changing news?
In some cases, it's a matter of who has the scoop first. The quality of the reporting is secondary.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
When it comes to more recent TV series, I really enjoyed Jacqueline Carlyle on The Bold Type.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
The one that still makes me laugh to this day is the one for a Susan Boyle album release party,
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email is always the best way to pitch stories/guests.
Who do you wish followed you?
Ava DuVernay because I admire and respect her work and everything she's done for women in the film and TV industry.
Why did you become a journalist?
I love writing, and I love learning about people and sharing their stories.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
We didn't have a newspaper at my high school, but I was a DJ on the school radio station.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Know your value, be kind, and if you are in a position to do so, don't settle for anything that doesn't meet your standards.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I don't typically keep any formal hours, so email pitches are welcome at any time.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I really enjoy reading Variety and Vanity Fair.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
For Fem TV, I get pitches for female authors, entrepreneurs, influencers and more. The scope of the podcast is strictly women working in TV.
