“Every Year After” (2026)
As I doomscrolled as usual on Amazon Prime in the early evening looking for something bingeworthy, I came across “Every Year After.” The new Amazon Prime romantic drama partially satiated my craving for the beach during the impending UK heatwave, especially having been a huge fan of “The Summer I Turned Pretty”(2022-2025) by Jenny Han for the last few years. Romantic dramas often live or die by their predictability, plot twists, and character chemistry.
“Young Sherlock”
I recently finished watching the new(ish) adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes story, “Young Sherlock.” Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays young Sherlock and Dónal Finn is James Moriarty. The two are portayed as having been partners in crime before their canon rivalry, which is what the eight-episode mini-series builds towards. Finn’s acting is marvelous; he has an air of Irish charm and dry humor that modulates the dark themes of the story.

Keeping Pesach - The American Mag
Passover is one of my favourite Jewish holidays. Partly because it’s an easy one to explain to a Christian. Explaining what we call Pesach and the traditions and customs that come with it to my non-Jewish friends is something I started taking pride in as I got closer to the Jewish community in Manchester. I was taken to my first Sukkot celebration (the autumn harvest festival to commemorate the Exodus form Egypt) in freshman year by a friend.
"Marty Supreme" - The American Mag
Could this film have been 98 minutes instead of 150? Yes. Was it incredibly overstimulating? Yes. Seeing it in the cinema, however, is very different from seeing it at home. In the cinema, time does not exist and neither does logic when it comes to storylines, character development, and endings. I will say, Timothée Chalamet is an incredible actor.
Mind the gap - The American Mag
I returned home for the Christmas break in late December. Welcomed by the red buses and red noses of local Londoners, I made my first trek into the centre of London, aka “town.” London stood proudly in the holiday must-visit brochures, often pictured decked with high-strung lights with the grandeur of frosted shop windows.
"House of Guinness" - The American Mag
It’s the 27th of May 1868 in Dublin, Ireland. Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness has just died and passed on his family legacy. There is nothing quite like a fresh pint of stout, settling like the debris that rises and falls with the beginning of a new era. The eight-episode mini-series is positively thrilling whether you are a history nerd like me or not. It’s my second taste of Irish historical drama since watching “Say Nothing” (2024).
The 8 best Halloween events in Manchester
Halloween is so exciting in Manchester with so much going on. There is something for everyone whether its a rave you crave, bottomless drinks and bingo brunch, or something new in the world of country music. This list shares everything from convenient spots along Oxford Road, to my favourite venues deeper into the city. Halloweekend (if you decide to do both Friday and Saturday) is intense, but with the right people and a touch of adventure you can have a fantastic time.
Film: "The Naked Gun" (2025)
Liam Neeson gives us all a little of what I think the world needs right now: Absolute silly, goofy behavior in a vivid screenplay. The witty lines we have all loved and missed dearly since the late Leslie Nielsen starred in the original television series “Police Squad!” (1982) and in the first movie of the trilogy, “Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!” (1988). And now, the franchise has been rebirthed and ever so slightly tweaked.
"To be loved is to be changed"
I think about this quote, “to be loved is to be changed,” often when reflecting on how the people or things I have loved, and the people who have loved me back, have inevitably changed me as a person. I also think of it in the way I’m twenty years old and still sleep with five or so stuffed animals on my bed. A bear, a rabbit, a panda, an otter, and a black cat.
Dare to fly - The American Mag
Two artists meet one misty summer night in Rotterdam central, brought together by the green strobes and bumping bass of the underground rave scene. Taking a reprieve from the hot, heavy dance of ghetto house and all its inhabitants, crammed like sardines between the brick walls and DJ booth, I go to light a cigarette, exhaling the fumes discreetly out the corner of my mouth. Rotterdam nightlife means community and unfiltered conversation, an ode to Dutch pragmatism.
10 things to do at night in Manchester (that are not just clubbing)
This article was written by Mia Levy from University of Manchester Manchester nightlife is one of the most renowned in the country. From underground pizza bars to arcades and live Jazz, there is so much more to do past 6pm in Manchester beyond the Factory 251 classic. In fact, many of the best things to do in Manchester at night can be a great way to fill up some spare time in the midweek.
Warrior culture - The American Mag
Michael Paris, a historian at the University of Lancashire, whom I met during my high school history class, has been popping up in my mind, prompting me to consider how popular culture influences our actions and our view of the world. In the first chapter of his book, Warrior Nation, he focuses on how World War I exhibits a social attitude endemic to British imperialism, the desperation to be seen as winners — with godly faith part of the mix.

How to make friends in Manchester as a student
As we get closer to the beginning of term and for many, your first semester at university, the question on everyone’s mind is “how am I going to make friends?” It’s a very valid question so don’t feel like it’s too basic of a thing to be scared about. Fear is your first friend in uni. It shows you’re excited and something new is on the horizon. Trying to make friends in Manchester especially can be daunting because it’s a big city and might be a shift for you if you’re coming from a smaller town.
Is Manchester a good student city?
Manchester is a major metropolis full of rich culture, foods and so much more. In the Manchester area alone there are 5 different universities including The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Salford. It is no doubt made for students, but is Manchester a good student city? We’ve taken a look at a few different things that seem to attract the most attention to Manchester to see if they make the city worthwhile in the eyes of a student.
Feeling very gezellig
Gezellig is a Dutch word for which there is no real English equivalent. The Dutch use it to mean comfort, coziness, warmth, togetherness. Often gezellig is experienced in social settings, for instance at a gathering of friends or on a visit to your grandparents, but it’s not only amongst others that one experiences gezellig.
2012, 2025, and everything in between
I remember being about seven years old staying up until midnight with my family. The thirty-first of December 2012. Champagne bubbles in Mom’s flute and my dad doing a silly jig in front of the TV fireworks. Next thing I knew, I was profusely crying. Bawling at saying goodbye to 2012. Crying because 2013 didn’t roll off the tongue as easily as 2012 did. I was odd and meticulous about things like that. Still am. Looking back at my younger self, I see her scared, uncertain, and deeply unsatisfied.
The double life - The American Mag
I’ve started to think more deeply about what identity comprises. For me, it is made up of many things: one’s spirituality and faith, social circle, upbringing, and background. Recently, though, I’ve started to question class and what meaning it holds for me.
An original thought?
It’s that time of year again. Where I sit in new classes with new people, and I’m supposed to be learning new things. Our teachers this year are pushing us to start thinking about topics for our final dissertations next year. My mind is a whirlwind. I can’t seem to get hold of a subject that I care enough about to write ten to twelve thousand words on. We’ve done Mao’s China, the history of British capitalism, and work and economy in society.
The road trip - The American Mag
You learn a lot about someone when you spend two weeks living, cooking and sleeping, in a 2003 Volkswagen T4 with them. You learn even more about yourself. France The late August sun turned gravel to glitter, as beneath us the wheels of the van hummed away. We had no plan, just a list of countries in my notes app and thirst for adventure. A thirst as deep as the Channel we had crossed. Our first stop on our way to Lille was in Bergues.
Lost mother tongue
Cultural amnesia, I don’t think there’s a tick box for that on medical forms. Conversations come up in which I have to admit I don’t speak Spanish. They go something like this: “Where are you from?
Decoding Internal Decision Making During Reverse Engineering Tasks
Abstract Neural decoding is often limited to tasks with known stimuli and limited response options. Real world tasks, however, are often completely stimulus free with unconstrained user response possibilities. Real time decoding of internal decision making would allow for more complex and interactive Huma Machine Teaming in a way that is not currently possible.

Landscape Analysis of Breast Cancer and Acute Myeloid Leukemia Trials Using the My Cancer Genome Clinical Trial Data Model
The term cancer is used to describe many conditions, and cancer's complexity and diversity is reflected in cancer treatments as well. It is not surprising, therefore, that a quarter of all drug approvals in the United States are for oncology.1 Before these drugs are approved, they go through a multistep process of approval—preclinical studies, clinical trials, regulatory review, etc—to generate data demonstrating safety and efficacy.

Analysis of Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy in Practice From Electronic Health Record Data of Patients With Breast Cancer
Adjuvant endocrine therapy is a long-term drug therapy prescribed to prevent recurrence of hormone receptor–positive breast cancer. Data on adjuvant endocrine therapy are reported though clinical trials, which may differ from treatment practice and outcomes in the general population of patients with breast cancer. With secondary use of electronic health record (EHR) data, we summarize adjuvant endocrine treatment practice and outcomes in real-world settings.
