What does it mean to be a journalist?
To put yourself outside of your own shoes and comfort zone.

Email.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Honestly, the notes app in my phone is critical for remembering sudden ideas for stories and pitches

Why did you become a journalist?
I've always been an "ideas person" rather than a technically good writer, and journalism and writing is the best way to express those ideas
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I did. I was the news editor and I also covered a lot of politics.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My college honors thesis on the subject of the uncanny in modern and contemporary art.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Try to find something, whether it's your beat or what have you that's truly niche and gives you a distinctive edge.

There was some book about how to please men that was sent to me for consideration. Vert anti-feminist.

At the thrift store.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I'm only interested in style and beauty. I actually thrive on writing for medical journals as well. I'm a science geek at heart.
