The population of extremely long-period Mira variables in the Milky Way remains poorly characterized. Their rarity and heavy circumstellar obscuration have precluded systematic studies in optical surveys, yet they are expected to trace the most massive stars evolving through the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB). We present IRTF/SpeX spectroscopy of the longest-period ($P\gtrsim1000$ d) Galactic Mira variables identified with the Palomar Gattini-IR survey.

Keywords culture, sex, LDS population, Russia, America, sexual behavior College Family, Home, and Social Sciences Abstract Recent work on female and male attitudes toward sexual behavior indicate that the sexes view sexual activity differently. Buss reported that females feel greater concern about a partner’s emotional commitment, whereas males show greater concern toward a partner’s sexual commitment.
Methylphenidate differentially alters corticostriatal connectivity after traumatic brain injury
Traumatic brain injury commonly impairs attention and executive function and disrupts the large-scale brain networks that support these cognitive functions. Abnormalities of functional connectivity are seen in corticostriatal networks, which are associated with executive dysfunction and damage to neuromodulatory catecholaminergic systems caused by head injury.

Biologically-informed Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) gene annotation tool
Natural killer (NK) cells are essential components of the innate immune system, with their activity significantly regulated by Killer cell Immunoglobulin-like Receptors (KIRs). The diversity and structural complexity of KIR genes present significant challenges for accurate genotyping, essential for understanding NK cell functions and their implications in health and disease.
Biologically-informed killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor gene annotation tool
Natural killer (NK) cells are critical components of the human innate immune system, playing a pivotal role in the body’s first line of defense against infections and tumors. A significant aspect of their regulatory mechanism involves the Killer cell Immunoglobulin-like Receptors (KIRs), which are expressed on the surface of NK cells and some T lymphocytes.
Effects of Monetary Rewards and Verbal Praise on Intrinsic Motivation: a Replication Addressing Specific Confounds Present in Earlier Research
Keywords monetary rewards, verbal praise, intrinsic motivation College Family, Home, and Social Sciences Abstract Over the past thirty years a significant body of research has been developed examining the effects that tangible rewards such as money have on intrinsic motivation. Intrinsically motivated behavior consists of behavior that cannot be readily attributed to external factors. Examples could include reading, hunting, and working crossword puzzles.
Quantification of neurofilament light and glial fibrillary acidic protein in finger-prick blood
An accurate diagnosis of neurodegenerative disease and traumatic brain injury is important for prognostication and treatment. Neurofilament light and glial fibrillary acidic protein are leading biomarkers for neurodegeneration and glial activation that are detectable in blood. Yet, current recommendations require rapid centrifugation and ultra-low temperature storage post-venepuncture.

Exploring the Potential of Polypropylene Fibers and Bacterial Co-Culture in Repairing and Strengthening Geopolymer-Based Construction Materials
3. Results and Discussion 3.1. pH and Temperature Tolerance Microbial growth was observed up to pH 9 for both cultures during incubation at 37 °C. Notably, B. subtilis exhibited growth at pH 8, exclusively at 50 °C, whereas no growth was detected in the case of B. megaterium. However, on the seventh day of incubation, bacterial growth was observed across all pH levels and temperatures, as demonstrated in Table 2. Following a seven-day incubation period, both B. subtilis and B.

A physics investigation on impedance matching theory in microwave absorption film-Part I. Theory
IM is designed to explain the minimum peaks of RL/dB by Zin = Z0 while QWM is closely related to IM and purports to explain a set of related minima of |RL| in that the associated values of d and ν for each peak are defined as matching thickness and frequency, respectively.27 However, the QWM is flawed because the phase effects from interfaces are ignored5,22 and the theory should be replaced by an inverse relationship.10 An intuitive analysis is provided in SM3.
Artificial Intelligence and its Potential Adverse Impacts on the Philippine Economy

Synergistic activation of the insulin receptor via two distinct sites - Nature Structural & Molecular Biology
Abstract Insulin receptor (IR) signaling controls multiple facets of animal physiology. Maximally four insulins bind to IR at two distinct sites, termed site-1 and site-2. However, the precise functional roles of each binding event during IR activation remain unresolved. Here, we showed that IR incompletely saturated with insulin predominantly forms an asymmetric conformation and exhibits partial activation. IR with one insulin bound adopts a Γ-shaped conformation.
Structural mechanism of muscle nicotinic receptor desensitization and block by curare - Nature Structural & Molecular Biology
Abstract Binding of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine to its receptors on muscle fibers depolarizes the membrane and thereby triggers muscle contraction. We sought to understand at the level of three-dimensional structure how agonists and antagonists alter nicotinic acetylcholine receptor conformation. We used the muscle-type receptor from the Torpedo ray to first define the structure of the receptor in a resting, activatable state.
More efficient and inclusive time-to-event trials with covariate adjustment: a simulation study - Trials
The impact of covariate adjustment depends on several characteristics related to indications and clinical trials. Our simulations confirm the expected result that the power gains increase with the prognostic performance, measured by C-index, of the covariates used in covariate adjustment. Other parameters that were considered such as Weibull shape, drop-out rate, or effect size do not play an important role in determining power gain.

iGrill Grilling/Cooking Digital Thermometer
The device works well and the software is really impressive. However, it does not come with an ambient temperature sensor, which i s very important for smoking/BBQ. This must be ordered from iGrill, and they will gouge you on the shipping costs ($15 to ship a very light $20 probe). Unfortunately, Apple doesn't sell the ambient probe, or you could buy them together and get FREE shipping. If an ambient probe is important to you, realize that it will add $35 to the cost of the item.
