Religion: Recreating the scene of the birth of Jesus
Lifetime friends and Catholic Saints Francis and Clare lie entombed in their charming hilltop hometown of Assisi, Italy. Saint Clare, dead more than 700 years, lies incorrupt in a glass coffin inside a church built in her honor. Meanwhile Saint Francis lies in a mighty basilica a mile away, a place of worldwide pilgrimage.
Religion: What does a pope do?
With all the excitement over the election of the American Pope Leo XIV, it is appropriate to ask: what does a pope do? While a pope has several titles, the two most important would be Vicar of Christ and Successor of Peter. A vicar in Latin is a person who represents another: in this case, the pope is the visible representative of Jesus Christ, who is the true Head of the Church.
Religion: Merry Christmas… In January!
With Christmas decorations sometimes going up before Thanksgiving, and even Halloween, it may seem unnecessary to prolong Christmas. However, Catholics and many other Christian traditions can extend Christmas into the second week of January. We do so because the overwhelming and joyful reality of the God’s Word made flesh in Christ Jesus is too large a mystery to ponder in a single day. The season begins with a week, Christmas Day to New Year’s Day, known as the Octave of Christmas.

Religion: Let’s do better for the homeless | Morgan Hill Times | Morgan Hill, San Martin, CA Original
Any resident of California is aware of the large number of homeless individuals in the state. Even South County has numerous people readily identifiable as lacking a home. Often they fill our creeks and sit along our sidewalks. More recently at St. Mary, I have encountered a new population—persons who have crossed our overrun southern border and are taking an evening rest with their backpacks and small suitcases on parish grounds before moving along to parts unknown.
Religion: True freedom of discussion
“Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their parents; only for one’s own crime shall a person be put to death.” — Deuteronomy 24:16 This injunction in the Book of Deuteronomy is a reversal of the ancient belief that God (or gods for polytheists) operated in the realm of punishing groups more than individuals.
Religion: The best ideals and a challenge
The Father of our nation, George Washington, had a remarkable correspondence with the first Catholic Bishop in the United States, John Carroll. At the time Catholics were, at best, 1% of the population of the young nation and were living in only two states: Maryland and Pennsylvania. As a mark of his esteem for Bishop Carroll and to demonstrate his respect for religious freedom, President Washington asked Bishop Carroll to provide the benediction for his second presidential inauguration in 1793.

Clinical Profiles, Outcomes, and Sex Differences of Patients With STEMI: Findings From the NORIN-STEMI Registry
JACC Journals › JACC: Asia › Archives › Vol. 3 No. 3_Part_2 Abstract Background Low- and middle-income countries account for most of the global burden of coronary artery disease. There is a paucity of data regarding epidemiology and outcomes for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients in these regions. Objectives The authors studied the contemporary characteristics, practice patterns, outcomes, and sex differences in patients with STEMI in India.
Religion: Bettering One's Relationship With The Lord - Morgan Hill Times
“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And He fasted for forty days and forty nights.” Mathew 4: 1-2 The recent appearance of actor Mark Wahlberg with his “40 Day Challenge” on NBC’s Today morning program reminded many in the general public that the Christian season of Lent is upon us. For Western Christians, including Roman Catholics, Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and the ubiquitous ashes on the forehead. Eastern Christians begin Lent on a Monday.
Religion: Praying for the dead
July 28 used to be one of my favorite days of the year. On the Roman Catholic calendar, it is the feast day of a minor saint, Pope Saint Victor I, who was martyred by the Romans around the year 199 AD.

Heart Block Post-Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement TAVR
Article Abstract Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has developed substantially since its inception. Improvements in valve design, valve deployment technologies, preprocedural imaging and increased operator experience have led to a gradual decline in length of hospitalisation after TAVR.

Prevalence and Prognostic Significance of Mitral Regurgitation in Acute Decompensated Heart Failure: The ARIC Study
Abstract Objectives This study investigates the prevalence and prognostic significance of mitral regurgitation (MR) in acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) patients. Background Few studies characterize the burden of MR in heart failure. Methods The ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities) study surveilled ADHF hospitalizations for residents ≥55 years of age in 4 U.S. communities. ADHF cases were stratified by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF): <50% and ≥50%.
Shifting Trends in Timing of Pacemaker Implantation After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Introduction Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has grown exponentially since 2011 and is now preferred over surgical aortic valve replacement in most patients with severe aortic stenosis (1,2). Despite advancements in TAVR technology and increasing operator experience, injury to the conduction system during TAVR resulting in high-degree atrioventricular block (HAVB) necessitating permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation remains an obstinate complication.

Girls' AAU programs are on the rise
Gerard Coury is one of the AAU coaches who has noticed a surging interest in girls’ basketball. Now in his 12th year with North Tartan, an AAU program that practices in the Twin Cities metro area, Coury said there is an increased demand from high school players all over the state to continue playing basketball into the spring and summer. “Families are spending more time and resources. Kids are putting in more time to make it on these teams,” Coury said.
Shakopee wrestling wins five individual state championships
They weren’t able to end Apple Valley’s streak of state tournament appearances in the Section 2, Class 3A finals two weeks ago, but Saturday provided plenty of salve for the Shakopee wrestling team. The Sabers were 5-for-5 in Class 3A championship matches, getting victories from Aaron Cashman at 113 pounds, Carson Manville at 126, Brent Jones at 132, Alex Lloyd at 145 and Alex Crowe at 152. “These guys know how to do it,” said assistant coach Marcus LeVesseur, himself a three-time state champion.
Apple Valley survives 'biggest scare' en route to 12th straight title
Apple Valley senior Tanyi Besong has had a pretty impressive career as a wrestler, but until Thursday the 220-pounder was always upstaged by the Eagles’ unparalleled heavyweight, Gable Steveson. Besong seized his opportunity on high school wrestling’s biggest stage, earning a 12-1 major decision over Anoka’s Evan DeChene in the 220-pound match, tying the score 24-24.
