Comparison of Rheological Methods to Measure Grease Degradation
4.2. Analysis of Methods A basic analysis of the aforementioned procedures was conducted by measuring 14 grease samples using the three methods with both a flat plate and a profiled plate. This was performed to examine the sensitivity of each method to surface effects since structured geometry can provide different flows and act as a higher effective gap [40]. Results are provided in Figure 13, Figure 14 and Figure 15.

Top 5 Plant Engineering articles May 10-16, 2021
The top 5 most read articles online, from May 10-16, 2021, for Plant Engineering covered how to keep spare part inventories accurate for maintenance departments, what a bad or non-existent maintenance program costs manufacturers, and why commodity casters cause injuries. Links to each article below. 1. How to keep spare part inventories accurate for maintenance departments Spare part inventory management isn’t easy to get started and it’s even harder to maintain.
Why investing in electrical safety is important now more than ever
In March 2021, the official OSHA top 10 Violations for 2020 were published after an understandable delay not unlike what we had grown accustomed to amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s top 10 saw the Standard (1910.147) for The Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) drop to the No. 6 spot with 2,065 total violations — 541 less than the previous year.
Additive manufacturing to be showcased at lubrication conference

How nature’s characteristics can help build sustainable industrial networks
By translating the pattern of interconnections between nature’s food chains to industrial networks, researchers at Texas A&M University have delineated guidelines for setting up successful industrial communities. The researchers said this guidance can facilitate economic growth, lower emissions and reduce waste while simultaneously ensuring that partnering industries can recover from unexpected disturbances.
Parasitic Power Losses in Hydrodynamic Bearings
arasitic frictional losses in machines result in wasted energy and the generation of heat, which affects the life of materials, including the lubricant. A significant portion of total fluid film bearing losses in high-speed turbomachinery may be consumed simply in feeding oil to the bearings. At surface speeds below roughly 10,000 ft/min, these extraneous parasitic losses are generally less than 10 percent of those of the oil-film frictional losses.
Guidelines for Oil Mist Lubrication
ith improvements in oil formulations, oil mist lubrication systems are becoming increasingly popular in a variety of applications where only limited oil feed supply is required.
