Readers Write: GN clergy should call for end to Markowitz attacks
We have known Steve Markowitz for almost 45 years since we both moved to Great Neck with our young children. We have admired him for all he does to make Great Neck a great place to live and raise families. He has served as president of Temple Israel and created the inter-Synagogue rabbinic dialogue, bringing together clergy of all denominations. Steve drafted the statement by the Town of North Hempstead to oppose the Iran nuclear deal.
Drivers: Pay Attention To Pedestrian Crosswalks
For many years, I have been concerned about drivers who intentionally and callously ignore pedestrian crosswalks. This morning, I walked (as I usually do) to my office across from the intersection of Lakeville Road and Tanners Road. The pedestrian light signaled permission to cross over Lakeville Road, and I did so.

Friday Night: Dylan Leblanc at the Casbah I know the headliner for the Casbah's early show on Friday is Rich Robinson, brother of Chris and a founding member of The Black Crowes. That's great. Black Crowes were a radio staple growing up and it's great that he's coming. I think his music is more my speed than his brother and I'm looking forward to seeing him. You can grab a download here (or just click the arrow to hear the song).

So I was really gonna stay offline today, but I just got a press release about Breaking Laces and it's kinda funny. Billy and Seth of Breaking Laces were the guys I hung out with on Friday at Bar 96 in Austin. Seth wasn't doing well when we met. Apparently he'd fallen and hurt his wrists. I was sure at least one was broken judging by the swelling. He sat with me and asked me to text his friends from his phone to let them know he was ok.

Today was a much fuller day than yesterday. It started with sharing a 100 degree hotel room with my buddy Bob... (sigh... I'm in charge of the room temp tonight, Bob...) At 7:00, I drove to KRUZ 97.5 in Santa Barbara to do a radio interview with my good buddy Matt Stone, who runs the morning show. I played a few songs, joked around with him about music and plugged the expo. I think the best part was when an obviously hungover girl called into the station and asked for a taxi.

That last post was supposed to be this post, but when you're inspired to write, you just gotta go with it. This is another photo from yesterday, up on a bluff above OB. I do have some news to share with you, however, so now that all that other stuff is off the brain, here goes. First, the great CityBeat Demo Review issue is coming up and MONDAY is the final deadline for submissions.

I was up until 7am attempting to compile the most comprehensive NYE guide that I could. My listings are all here, but being a live music oriented site, I wanted to highlight two huge shows going down. The first is taking place at the Casbah featuring Transfer, Rafter, The Shape of Future Frames, and Low Volts in the Atari Lounge. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door (if it doesn't sell out beforehand) and can be purchased HERE. The other biggie is taking place at Eleven.

I generally don't post about the About The Music shows as they're announced because FM 94/9 does a pretty good job of spreading the word on their own and with super inexpensive ticket prices, they generally sell out quite quickly, but I LOVE the band they're kicking off their 2011 series with and if you haven't heard them yet, you're gonna be bummed if you suddenly discover them after the tickets sell out.

Rocktoberfest 2010 Over the weekend, San Diego experienced the first annual (as it is definitely going to continue) Rocktoberfest. Put together by the great minds at FM 94/9, West Coast Tavern, and the Casbah, the event had a strong turnout for what was a pretty gloomy day. The event started at 11 (!!!) and as I understand was lightly attended earlier in the daytime, but by the time I arrived around 4 pm a good crowd has assembled to enjoy the bands split among two stages.

The other day I stopped in to Analog Bar and caught up with my old friend Aaron Thompson, who you might have seen in Pacific Magazine . Aaron ("A-Fresh") used to front The Stranger's Six and has been working on a new solo record for a while, but he shared with me that his friends in Fenix TX asked him to join them for a European tour. Apparently the band's bassist can't make the tour for whatever reason, so Aaron will be filling in with the pop-punk band.

Last year I took a ton of photos at the Fm 94/9 Independence Jam and I seriously don't think I ever got around to posting them. Sometimes I plan on writing a ton and it just doesn't happen. So instead, I'm gonna just post the photos and wipe my hands clean of it. I promised these kids that their photo would be the first one posted. They were such troopers. They were in the front the entire day, engaged with every band, and were SO excited to be there.

Final Comic-Con Photos: Sunday While Sunday might've been the day of the already blown Comic-con wad, it was also a really fun day for me because I got to hang with my Seattle friends that I met last year at the True Blood happy hour. If Kathy Griffin can have her Gays, then I get to have My Nerds. And I wouldn't say so were it not with total affection (and confusion at their topical geek fights which they would alert me to...'um, here we go again...x vs.

Yesterday Jeff chose Dirty Sweet as his "weekly pick" here on sddialedin.com. I thought I'd give a little more info and give away some tickets. The show is presented by Daydream Nation, the new promotion company run by Eric Howarth of Hi-Speed Soul Records and former owner of M-Theory. He's the reason Tim Pyles and I got a tour of the club before it opened and why we attended the soft opening.
