Primary sclerosing cholangitis - Nature Reviews Disease Primers
Abstract Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic biliary inflammation associated with periductular fibrosis of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts leading to strictures, bacterial cholangitis, decompensated liver disease and need for liver transplantation. This rare focal liver disease affects all races and ages, with a predominance of young males. There is an up to 88% association with inflammatory bowel disease.
Primary biliary cholangitis as a roadmap for the development of novel treatments for cholestatic liver diseases†

NEJM. 375: 631-643 However, as discussed later in this review, we probably need to move to more stringent composite biochemical endpoints in trials. The most recent tools to select patients in need of second-line therapy are the Globe and the UK-PBC scores, which are continuous scoring systems.
Breakthroughs in hepatitis C research: from discovery to cure - Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology
Abstract In the 1970s, an unknown virus was suspected for documented cases of transfusion-associated hepatitis, a phenomenon called non-A, non-B hepatitis. In 1989, the infectious transmissible agent was identified and named hepatitis C virus (HCV) and, soon enough, the first diagnostic HCV antibody test was developed, which led to a dramatic decrease in new infections.
Editorial: “real world data” of AIH-time to connect!
Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a rare liver disease with a prevalence of approximately 16‐18/100.000 in Europe.1 However, two separate recent studies from Denmark and Germany showed a significant rise of AIH incidence during the last decades,2, 3 which might also apply to other countries. The disease is basically characterised by a chronic immune‐mediated inflammatory response against the patient's own liver.

Chronic hepatitis C virus infection irreversibly impacts human natural killer cell repertoire diversity
To overcome the relative shortcoming of former studies of NK cells in the context of chronic viral infections typically probing simultaneously for only a limited number of phenotypic parameters, we here combined a high-dimensional flow cytometry analysis with stochastic neighbor embedding (SNE) analysis to determine the overall impact of chronic HCV on NK cells (Fig. 1).

Hepatitis D virus in Africa: several unmet needs
Chronic hepatitis B virus infection is a global disease. More than 240 million people are chronic carriers of hepatitis B virus, which contributes to substantial morbidity and mortality, including liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death.1, 2 The diagnostic hallmark of hepatitis B virus carriers is detectable HBsAg in serum.
Ledipasvir and sofosbuvir plus ribavirin in patients with genotype 1 or 4 hepatitis C virus infection and advanced liver disease: a multicentre, open-label, randomised, phase 2 trial - The Lancet Infectious Diseases
Treatment options are limited for patients infected by hepatitis C virus (HCV) with advanced liver disease. We assessed the safety and efficacy of ledipasvir, sofosbuvir, and ribavirin in patients with HCV genotype 1 or 4 and advanced liver disease. We did an open-label study at 34 sites in Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Cohort A included patients with Child-Turcotte-Pugh class B (CTP-B) or CTP-C cirrhosis who had not undergone liver transplantation.
