Michael Marshall’s Biography

I am a freelance science journalist based in the UK. I mostly write about life sciences, health and the environment, but am interested in pretty much everything.

My first book The Genesis Quest, recounting scientists' struggle to understand how life on Earth began, was published in 2020 to universally positive reviews.

I have previously been a staff journalist at New Scientist and the BBC.

As a freelancer I have been published in publications including New Scientist, BBC Future, The Telegraph, Forbes, Nature and Spectrum.

I am an experienced editor and copy editor.

I have also written technical reports and white papers, notably for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
