Michael Masrie’s Biography

I am an award-winning Ethiopian journalist, analyst, and author with over a decade of experience at the intersection of journalism, diplomacy, and international affairs. As a seasoned correspondent and contributor, I specialize in political economy, geopolitics, and global governance, offering sharp analysis and grounded insights into African and international dynamics. My reporting and commentary—featured across outlets such as The Africa Report, Allen Dreyfus, ETV, DW, VOA, NBC, and Sky News—span frontier markets, global politics, and regional security developments. I have conducted exclusive interviews with more than 40 ambassadors and high-level policymakers, shaping public discourse on issues ranging from diplomacy and digital transformation to peace and conflict in the Horn of Africa. I hold a BA in Political Science and International Relations and an MA in International Relations and Diplomacy from Addis Ababa University. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Peace and Security Studies at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), with a research focus on data sovereignty, digital diplomacy, and regional security in Africa. In addition to my media work, I am the author of 14 books, including the widely acclaimed Virtual Handshakes: The New Frontiers of Digital Diplomacy. My work bridges journalism, academic inquiry, and strategic communications—informing, engaging, and influencing audiences across platforms, both regionally and globally.
