Celebrating 150 Years of Texas A&M
This month, I introduced a resolution commending and congratulating Texas A&M for 150 years of service to the State of Texas and the United States. When it opened its doors to its first six students in 1876, the institution embodied the spirit of Texas as a military institution grounded in discipline, leadership, and camaraderie. A century and a half later, after more than 653,000 students have graduated from A&M, its unique character and traditions continue to shine through.
National Review: 'Michael McCaul, Citizen Servant'
When terrorists attacked the United States on September 11, I learned just how thin the margin is between security and catastrophe. The tragedy of that day inspired me to run for Congress in 2004, and throughout the next 22 years, I dedicated myself to addressing the most pressing national security issues of our time. During my tenure as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, my first duty was to keep our citizens safe.

This Weekend: Michael McCaul, U.S. Representative for Texas's 10th District and Chairman Emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, highlights the meeting between Presidents Trump and Zelensky in New York during the convening of the United Nations, digs into the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, and shares concerns over China’s threat to invade Taiwan.

Receiving the Order of the Brilliant Star in Taiwan
This week, I concluded my third trip to Taiwan. During the Korean War in 1950, General Douglas MacArthur famously called Taiwan an "unsinkable aircraft carrier." That is still true today. Taiwan stands as an enduring pillar of freedom to check and to stop the spread of the Chinese Communist Party’s malign influence across Asia. During my speech at the Ketagalan Forum in Taipei, I assured the Taiwanese people that they will always have a steadfast partner in the United States of America.
McCaul, Hoyer, Colleagues Introduce the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) introduced the bipartisan Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 alongside 16 of their colleagues.
What this adds to what is known? What is the implication, what should change now? Clinical and public guidelines help healthcare professionals make evidence-based decisions. Developing these guidelines requires skilled individuals, known as guideline methodologists and chairs, to lead panel discussions. However, formal training opportunities for these vital roles are rare and often expensive.
Standing with our Military and Veterans
This past week, I proudly voted for the annual National Defense Authorization Act. Fully funding our military is a fundamental duty of Congress — one that has never been more vital as America’s adversaries seek to undermine global stability. This year's NDAA passed the House with several provisions I championed that will support our brave servicemembers and their families, equip our warfighters with the tools they need to win, and deter our adversaries’ aggression around the world.
A Momentous Visit to Ukraine
After landing in Ukraine, I was first escorted to the Donbas region — a primary focal point of the war, where battle is still being waged. Since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Federation has illegally seized territory throughout the region, but the Ukrainians are now successfully pushing Russian forces back. While there, I met with Ukrainian troops at a frontline operations center to learn about their success in the Donbas and assure them of U.S. support.
Honoring Senator Graham's Legacy, Fighting for the Same Mission
Last week, I traveled to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian troops near the front lines, receive an award from President Zelensky, observe drone operations, and hold robust discussions with several other government officials and military leaders. As I was on the train from Kyiv to Warsaw, I received the devastating news that Senator Lindsey Graham had passed away. His passing is a grave loss for our entire nation. Senator Graham was a visionary, a courageous patriot, and a personal mentor and friend.
Congress must honor Lindsey Graham’s legacy by passing this bill
Rarely in life do you meet someone who genuinely embodies the weight and responsibility of the word “leader.” Lindsey Graham was one of those men. He possessed remarkable intellect, matched by a mastery of the political arena that enabled him to achieve noble goals — to say nothing of his quick wit and disarming personality. I have been blessed to call him a mentor and a friend. We shared the same worldview: America is strongest at home when we project strength abroad.
Chairman Emeritus McCaul on ABC's "This Week"
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul (R-Texas) joined Martha Raddatz on ABC's "This Week" in the wake of Sen. Lindsey Graham's passing to honor his legacy and enduring friendship.

Chairman Emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Michael McCaul introduced the bipartisan Strategic Unmanned Systems Partnership Act with Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) to increase security cooperation and strengthen defense capabilities between the United States and Ukraine.
Protecting Our Livestock
Before it was eradicated half a century ago, a brutal parasite known as New World Screwworm wreaked havoc on livestock and ruthlessly damaged economies across the southwest. Now, it has reemerged — posing a serious threat to the agricultural backbone of our state. Preventing a similar tragedy will require re-education, training, and additional resources to swiftly detect cases and stop new infections.
Combating Illicit Fentanyl Trafficking
Fentanyl is the number one killer of young Americans between the ages of 18 and 45. Every single day, moms and dads across Texas, and across this entire nation, are burying their children. This isn't just a law enforcement crisis. It’s a generational crisis. It’s a national security threat to our youth and a moral failure if we do not use every tool at our disposal to crush it.
Kicking Off the World Cup
Today is a proud day for our nation, as the United States will soon host a FIFA World Cup match for the first time in 30 years. As chairman of the Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States, I have worked diligently to ensure top-notch security at these games and future events on American soil.
Honoring the Greatest Generation On D-Day
On June 6, 1944, the Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy to fight against tyranny and liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. This decisive operation — in which more than 2,500 brave Americans paid the ultimate price — turned the tide of the war and changed the course of history.
Championing Peace Through Deterrence
I chaired the Foreign Affairs Committee during a time when the world was lit on fire. President Biden's administration projected weakness on the world stage — beginning with the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan — which emboldened our adversaries around the globe. As I always say, weakness invites aggression, while strength and deterrence lead to peace.
Guarding the Skies at the FIFA World Cup
From foreign adversaries to cartels, bad actors around the world are increasingly using drones to target infrastructure and harm innocent civilians. As the U.S. prepares to host millions of visitors for the FIFA World Cup and America250 celebrations, we must be prepared to neutralize this evolving threat. That's why I introduced the Guard the Skies Act, which would enable the National Guard to conduct counter-drone operations.
Fighting to Stop Fentanyl and Bolster Immigration Through Work with Mexico
Mexico and the United States are connected not only by our southern border, but also by mutual security challenges and shared economic interests. As the chairman of the U.S.-Mexico Interparliamentary Group, I recently led a delegation to Mexico, where we secured a historic agreement from the Mexican Senate to allow U.S. Marines to conduct joint exercises in Mexico. Together, our forces are working to combat fentanyl trafficking before this deadly drug reaches the U.S. border.
A Harrowing Night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner
Last weekend, as journalists, congress members, and administration officials gathered at the Washington Hilton to recognize the importance of a free press, a deranged individual attempted to storm the ballroom and kill President Trump and others. Thankfully, the brave Secret Service members jumped into action, subduing the suspect before he even made it to the ballroom door.
McCaul, Crane Urge Admin to Empower National Guard to Address Potential Drone Threats at Upcoming FIFA World Cup Games
U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul — chairman of the Homeland Security Committee's Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events — sent a letter with U.S Congressman Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin.
Working to Revive Civil Discourse
This week, I had the honor of speaking at Texas A&M University's inaugural Civil Discourse Symposium, which also featured Vice President Mike Pence. Representative Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat, and I took the stage to discuss how we work across the aisle to get good things done for the American people — from border security to counternarcotics efforts.
Expanding Veterans' Access to Breakthrough Treatments
Every day, an average of 17 veterans take their own lives. These are men and women who survived combat, yet lost a quieter and longer war against the invisible wounds they carried with them. We owe it to these heroes to do absolutely everything in our power to help those who are struggling with mental health and substance addictions. Mounting evidence shows that neuroplastogen treatments like ibogaine can provide a durable path to healing where traditional medicine has failed.
McCaul Reintroduces Legislation to Stop Bad Actors From Entering the U.S.
Congressmen Michael McCaul (R-Texas) and Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (D-Texas) reintroduced the Biometric Identification Transnational Migration Alert Program (BITMAP) Authorization Act, which would authorize a successful Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program that partners with other countries to help identify and stop dangerous criminals and potential terrorists from reaching our borders.
Democrats' DHS Shutdown is National Security Malpractice
At a time when our nation is facing heightened terror threats, Democrats' continued shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security is national security malpractice. We've already seen four ISIS-inspired attacks on our homeland in recent weeks, including one in Austin, where three innocent people were killed at the hands of a terrorist. And this week, the Iranian regime said it plans to attack parks, recreational areas, and tourist sites around the world.
President Trump is Calling "Checkmate" on Iran
Iran's reign of terror began with weak leadership by President Carter, and it's going to end with strong leadership by President Trump. The military objectives — destroying the Navy, dismantling Iran's missile and drone production, and ensuring the regime never develops a nuclear weapon — are being accomplished quickly. And President Trump's recent attack on Kharg Island, which processes 90% of Iran's crude oil exports, is calling "checkmate" on the Supreme Leader.
Moran Signs Letter Urging Trump Administration to Combat Illegal Chinese Vapes
U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) joined 70 of his House colleagues in a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer urging the Trump Administration to address the flood of illegal Chinese e-cigarettes entering American markets without FDA approval. Led by Rep. Mike Carey (OH-15), the letter calls on the administration to make curbing illicit Chinese vape imports a priority in any future trade negotiations with China.
Democrats Must Fund DHS To Protect the Homeland
Amidst a heightened threat environment across the nation, Democrats' continued refusal to fund the Department of Homeland Security is appalling. Shutting down this critical agency — which manages airport security, oversees disaster relief, protects our nation from cyber threats, and more — puts the security of our nation at risk. I am demanding Democrats put politics aside and fund DHS — before terror strikes again.
Standing with President Trump to Finally Lift a Dark Veil of Terror over the Middle East
In 1979, a dark veil descended across the Middle East. Since then, the Iranian regime has operated as the nucleus of the world's most extensive and dangerous terror network. Ever since the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan — which emboldened our adversaries around the world — Iran has been locked in an "unholy alliance" with China and Russia.
McCaul Discusses Effort to Secure AI Supply Chains with Under Secretary Helberg
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul (R-Texas) discussed the importance of Pax Silica — the State Department's initiative to secure high-tech and artificial intelligence supply chains — with Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg at a committee hearing titled, "Advancing National Security through Commercial Diplomacy." McCaul is also chairman of the committee's Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States. Full Exchange: McCaul: Thank you, Mr. chairman.
Chairman Emeritus McCaul Statement on Fourth Anniversary of Putin's War
by Michael McCaul on February 24, 2026 at 11:08 AM Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Emeritus Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement on the fourth anniversary of Putin's war in Ukraine. "Today marks four years since Vladimir Putin launched his brutal and unprovoked war on Ukraine — a war we were told in our briefings wouldn't last more than four days. Time and again, he has demonstrated a chilling disinterest in peace.
McCaul Discusses Concerns About the Future of Syria at Foreign Affairs Committee Hearing
Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs — discussed his concerns about the future of Syria at a full committee hearing, titled "Syria at a CrossRoads: U.S. Policy Challenges Post-Assad." McCaul directed his questions to Nadine Maenza, the former chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. Remarks as delivered: McCaul: Thank you, Mr. Chairman; thanks for holding this important hearing.
McCaul, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Cripple Russian Oil Revenue
U.S. Representative Michael McCaul (R-Texas) — chairman emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee — introduced the Decreasing Russian Oil Profits (DROP) Act of 2026. This bipartisan legislation requires targeted sanctions on any foreign person or entity involved in the purchase, importation, or facilitation of Russian-origin crude oil and petroleum products.
Results From My Delegation Visit to Mexico: A Key Victory in the Fight Against Fentanyl
This week — three days after my delegation returned home from Mexico — the Mexican Senate authorized 19 U.S. Navy SEALs to enter Mexico and conduct a joint training exercise with the Mexican Navy and Marines. This was a key objective of my visit to Mexico, and I am grateful the Mexican Senate acted so quickly on our recommendation.
Strengthening Regional Security By Leading A Bipartisan Trip to Mexico
The Trump administration is renewing our nation's emphasis on the Western Hemisphere — a move I strongly support. We must prioritize what is happening in our own backyard to ensure the prosperity and stability of our region of the world. That's why, this weekend, I led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Mexico to meet with Mexican lawmakers and other government officials.
Tehran tried to kill the internet, but U.S. legislation helped Iranians stay connected
Add us as a preferred source on Google - OPINION: Three years ago, in the wake of the murder by Iranian “morality police” of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini for improper wearing of her hijab, the Iranian people flooded the streets to stand in opposition to their authoritarian regime and demand freedom. Panicked, the Iranian government shut down the internet to crush the protests in darkness, but it was too late.
One Step Closer to Defeating Childhood Cancer
Last night, the House passed my Mikaela Naylon Give Kids A Chance Act — again — as part of a government funding bill that is now headed to the Senate for a vote next week. This crucial bill will spur the development of new pediatric cancer drugs and therapies, ensuring every child is given the best chance to beat this horrible disease. I was honored to celebrate this milestone with many precious childhood cancer patients, survivors, and advocates in the Capitol Visitor Center after the vote.
Highlighting the Importance of Cybersecurity Amidst Increased CCP Attacks
During my tenure as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I passed two crucial measures into law — the Cyber Information Sharing Act and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Act — to ensure our nation was prepared to face and combat cyber attacks. Since then, the cyber threats facing the U.S. have only grown; in recent years, the Chinese Communist Party has repeatedly attempted to hack into our sensitive networks and disrupt U.S. infrastructure.
Discussing the Latest in Iran on Newsmax
As thousands of Iranians courageously take to the streets, I'm thankful for President Trump's firm leadership and echo his demand for the regime to refrain from violence. President Trump has proven he means business with Tehran. He warned them to stop working on their nuclear programs, and when they refused, he swiftly eliminated their stockpiles. I have no doubt that if they ignore his calls for restraint now, they will once again face the consequences.

Beating China in the Race for AI Dominance
In 1996, as an attorney at the Department of Justice, I prosecuted the Johnny Chung case, which uncovered that China was funneling money into the campaign coffers of the DNC. They wanted to influence our presidential election in favor of Bill Clinton because they believed his administration would give them greater access to sensitive U.S. technology. China wanted our technology back then, and they still want it today.
Serving You In 2025 - A Year In Review
In 2025, President Trump put a stop to the chaos at our southern border — chaos caused by the Biden administration's disastrous open-border policies. When President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas abdicated their federal responsibility to protect the homeland, Texas stepped up. Our state spent millions of dollars on Operation Lone Star in an attempt to secure our nation's borders, and we deserve to be paid back for those efforts.
Fighting the Scourge of Human Trafficking
As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee's "Task Force on Enhancing Security for Special Events in the United States," I'm committed to ensuring the mass gatherings on America's soil — from the FIFA World Cup to the 2028 Olympics — are safe and fun for all. Unfortunately, these events provide a backdrop for criminal activity, including human trafficking, which I've always believed is a modern-day form of slavery.
Securing the Nation's Air, Land, and Sea
This week, I was honored to speak with Secretary Kristi Noem at a Homeland Security Committee hearing titled, "Worldwide Threats to the Homeland." In my remarks, I told her the hearing reminded me of Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities." While Democrats complained and cast blame, my Republican colleagues and I commended the administration for their hard work to reverse the Biden administration's border crisis.
Russia's Abduction of Ukrainian Children: Evil in Its Purest Form
This week, I was honored to speak at a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on the Russian Federation's abduction of at least 20,000 Ukrainian children. Many of these children have been shipped to Russia, tortured, told their own country and families are "the enemy," and finally, sent to the frontlines of the war to fight against their homeland. No child should ever have to endure that kind of barbarism.
