Michael Orodare’s Biography
Michael Orodare is a Nigerian writer, multimedia journalist, and documentary filmmaker with a special interest in stories at the intersection of criminal justice, the human cost of conflict, and how public policy and institutions (the system) impact the lives of the voiceless.
Since starting his journalism career as an intern at one of Nigeria’s leading national newspapers, The Nation, in 2010, he has reported on pressing issues across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, telling unexplored stories that challenge long-held misconceptions and spotlight local heroes.
His professional experience spans investigative reporting, human-interest storytelling, documentary production, and extensive newsroom work. In a career spanning more than a decade, he has published over 100 deeply researched stories across several platforms, including The Punch (Nigeria’s leading newspaper), Neusroom (a prominent platform for human-interest and untold stories in Nigeria and across Africa), among others.
In 2020, Michael became the first journalist in the world to publish a globally acclaimed exposé on the early life of Nigerian Instagram personality Ramon Abbas Olorunwa (Hushpuppi), who is currently serving a prison sentence in the United States after being convicted of internet fraud targeting American citizens.
He also coordinated the production of the first-ever documentary on Nigerian-American singer and one of Africa’s leading pop stars, Davido, titled “We Rise: The Davido Story,” released in January 2022.
Michael’s work has been cited in academic journals and referenced by media platforms in the United States.
Outside of journalism, Michael spent five years working as a Media Assistant in the Office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Ondo State Governor, from January 2012 to February 2017.
Before leaving Nigeria to pursue his master’s degree in documentary journalism the United States, Michael worked with Info Digital Africa (a member of the BHM Group) as Editorial Lead, where he led a team of professionals producing multimedia stories and oversaw the editorial direction of the company’s media platforms, including The Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin.
