My Picks for Shifting Left: ‘21
Here at ShiftLeft, we are gearing up for Shifting Left: ’21, a one-day application security conference for developers and security practitioners on Jan 28, 2021. I’ve been a huge fan of security conferences ever since I attended my first security conference, NorthSec in Montreal. This time, I am excited to be on the organizer’s side and present this conference to you. Shifting Left: ‘21 is entirely online and free to register here.

Scala’s Value Classes are a powerful and widely used mechanism for extension methods and additional type safety, both without incurring the runtime overhead of an allocation. For example, we can provide additional methods for instances of Foo (which may well be defined in a library out of our control) as follows: There are more examples in Scala’s documentation, which (together with AnyVal’s scaladoc) documents the limitations of this mechanism.

Today we’re happy to announce another open source project: sbt-ci-release-early. It’s an sbt plugin that takes care of automatically releasing your projects including git tags, and supports both your in-house setup (e.g. jenkins/artifactory) as well as your public builds (e.g. travis.ci/sonatype). In essence, it allows you to fully automatically release a new version for every successful CI build.
Open Sourcing Our Specialized TinkerGraph with 70% Memory Reduction and Strict Schema Validation
Most tech companies these days rely heavily on libre/open-source software, often contributed by volunteers in their spare time. ShiftLeft believes it is important to give back by contributing code and artifacts to the open-source community. Today we are announcing the release of our first milestone in this mission: A specialized TinkerGraph implementation with 70% memory reduction and strict schema validation.
