What was your first job as a journalist?
My first unprofessional journalist job was as a broadcaster for Bowie State's Metro News Report.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
No. I'm 22. I don't think I've ever even seen one.
How is social media changing news?
It makes things faster. News comes out faster than ever now. You can break a story through a tweet. That's insane, but very true.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
It means being an objective story teller and keeping your cool in all situations. It's tough, but that's the best part of it.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Bluntly tell me what the focus of the story is and who is involved. I'll make the next moves from there.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I use my phone and iPad for audio recordings, a notepad for note taking and a pen. I carry all of this in a backpack.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter. It's a great way to keep up with global happenings as well as providing easy access to a broad range of people.
Who do you wish followed you?
That's tough. If there was one person I could pick it'd be my favorite writer, Zach Lowe. I love his work.
Why did you become a journalist?
I just love the art of journalism and the way stories are told. I just think the nuance in each story is great. Everyone has a story to tell.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did not, actually. I was apart of the multimedia team and we worked on yearbook videos and online content.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Michael Minor was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy and his story had hardly been told. It was tough to remain objective but I did.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't give up. The path is definitely frustrating, but giving up is not an option.

Anytime is a good time.
