Waarom blijft kritiek langer hangen dan een compliment? Waarom bedenken we talloze doemscenario's voor de toekomst? Waarom vallen we zo gemakkelijk ten prooi aan stress, depressie, impulsiviteit, verslaving en jaloezie? Waarom zijn we niet gelukkiger, ook niet als we daar objectief gezien alle reden toe hebben? Al deze vragen hebben hetzelfde antwoord: door onze genetische programmering. We zijn evolutionair helaas niet gemaakt om permanent gelukkig te zijn.
