'Steps' trailer is the 'real' story of Cinderella's stepsisters
Netflix’s take on Cinderella’s sisters will tell the “real” story of a classic tale. In this trailer, Cinderella’s stepsisters aren’t evil, but they certainly are jealous. And that envy will lead all three siblings on a journey with stakes far bigger than go beyond any marriage or even one family. Here’s the official synopsis: Think you know Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters? Think again.
Who is Jason Voorhees' father in 'Crystal Lake'?
This post contains major spoilers for Crystal Lake on Peacock. If you want to avoid them, read our pre-show coverage instead. Just don’t read it by a fire in the woods of Camp Crystal Lake…. Friday the 13th established Pamela Voorhees as the greatest mother in horror film history, but Jason’s lesser known father Elias never appeared in any film. His story and role in the iconic slasher’s life has always been told in other mediums until Crystal Lake made Elias a big part of Jason’s story.
'Narnia: The Magician's Nephew' reveals rocking first trailer
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first book published in C.S. Lewis’ iconic The Chronicles of Narnia series. Ultimately, though, it wasn’t the first book he wanted fans to read. Five years later, he released a prequel novel, The Magician’s Nephew . It’s the tale of how the fantasy realm came into existence. And that’s where writer-director Greta Gerwig is beginning her big-screen adaptation of Lewis’ beloved series.
'Aretemis Fowl' animated series coming to Disney Channel and Disney+
In 2020 Disney tried launching a live-action Artemis Fowl movie franchise. It did not go well. The film was a weird adaptation that completely missed the mark. It was also bad entirely on its own merits. But fans of Eoin Colfer’s book series always knew the story deserved better. And Disney agrees. Only this time it’s not going back to the big screen with real people. Instead Artemis Fowl is heading to the Disney Channel and Disney+ for an animated series.
'The Shining' miniseries and TV Guide made me lore obsessed
My mom subscribed to TV Guide for most of my childhood. I must have read hundreds of them over the years. Yet I can only remember one single edition because it’s the only one I reread roughly a hundred times. In the spring of 1997 TV Guide released a big collectors edition for the upcoming ABC mini-series, Stephen King’s The Shining.
'Hexed' begins its witchy magical journey in new trailer
The official first full trailer for Hexed, the newest Disney animated feature , sends Hailee Steinfeld to a beautiful-yet-dangerous dimension. It’s where magical creatures and other powerful beings dwell. It’s a place her mom and fellow witch, voiced by Rashida Jones, has tried to keep her away from. But once there, she’ll have to be a quick learn to keep herself safe.

It's Deadpool's world and the rest of us are just f------ living in it. Live-action 'Cyberpunk 2077' in development

But soon we might get to see a live-action take on the franchise up on the big screen. A new report says Paramount Pictures is developing a Cyberpunk 2077 film set in the RPG world. Deadline first reported Skydance's Paramount Pictures is currently working on a Cyberpunk 2077 movie.

'Christmas at the Kringles' trailer brings joy and death
This retro-style trailer truly feels like a gift, as Christmas at the Kringles clearly has no interest in holding back on either the laughs or the gore. But what exactly awaits the neighborhood when it learns the not-so-surprising truth about its mirthful neighbors. Here’s the official synopsis from Briarcliff Entertainment: The story follows the Seversons, a family starting fresh in a quiet suburban neighborhood, whose next-door neighbors, the Kringles, celebrate Christmas year-round.
Mike Flanagan's 'The Exorcist: Martyrs' shares haunting first images
Fresh off of refreshing Carrie for a modern audience, Mike Flanagan is ready to do the same for The Exorcist franchise. The horror master is bringing demons big to the big screen with the latest entry in the legendary series. And the first images from The Exorcist: Martyrs starring Scarlett Johansson tease a terrifying tale unlike any Exorcist story we’ve seen before. Esquire has the first look at what nightmares await in Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs.
Dunkin’ and Marvel team up for 'Avengers: Doomsday' menu
Doctor Doom is coming and only the strongest heroes across the multiverse have any chance of stopping him. As for how the rest of us will deal with Victor, we’re thinking snacks. You know, just sit back and nosh while watching Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four handle the hard part. But when we do we won’t have to limit ourselves to just popcorn and Peanut M&Ms. Dunkin’ and Marvel Studios are teaming up for a special Avengers: Doomsday menu of drinks, donuts, and collectibles.
Paramount takes over Warner Bros., Skydance closes mega deal
It's done. And Hollywood will never be the same. Today Paramount Skydance Chairman and CEO David Ellison formally closed his mega $110-billion dollar purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery. The two iconic companies will now operate under the singular Skydance banner More than a year and a half after Netflix believed it had a deal in place to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery, the company now belongs to Paramount Skydance.
New Prime Video series 'Bloodaxe' shares first images
We want the same thing from every TV show. We want good writing, good acting, good production, and a good story. But when it comes to shows about vikings we have a few more demands. We want/need to see crazed warriors waging war with magnificent weapons in a quest for glory. And based on the first batch of photos from Prime Video‘s upcoming series Bloodaxe that’s exactly what we’re going to get from this epic tale.

All three DC Batman LEGO sets will go on sale when the calendar turns. They’ll be available at LEGO.com, LEGO Stores, and major retailers starting January 1, 2027. You don’t have to wait that long to pay for yours, though. You can already pre-order all three sets now. 'Fast & Furious' TV show racing to Peacock in 2028
Earlier this year, self-proclaimed architect of mythology Vin Diesel revealed that a Fast & Furious TV show was revving up. Now it’s officially on the streaming start line. Peacock has ordered a Fast & Furious series that will begin defying physics and logic in 2028. Deadline first reported Peacock is bringing the the big screen franchise to the small screen. It has greenlit a Fast & Furious series from writers and co-showrunners Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman.
Is Nicolas Cage right to slam MCU as 'well-funded and glorified WWE'?
Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage currently has 131 acting credits on his IMDb page. That is four more than Robert De Niro, even though Cage started his onscreen career 16 years later. Not all of those 131 credits have exactly been top-notch outings. That’s, uh, being polite. We love Cage, but he’s made some pretty terrible films without a ton of artistic merit. So you would think if anyone in Hollywood would not throw stones at other actors’ choices it would be him.
'Ebenezer' releases the year's worst trailer
The tagline for Ti West's take on A Christmas Carol , titled Ebenezer says, “Think you know his story? Think again.” No I absolutely refuse to “think again,” because Charles Dickens' iconic story is, quite literally, the story of Scrooge. That's the whole thing. It's the whole thing. But fine, whatever! Let's imagine for a second it isn't morally repugnant to cast Johnny Depp as the lead of your film in the year 2026 and give this movie a chance.
How to Choose a Dispensary in Chicago: A Local's Guide to Rogers Park and Beyond
Walking into a dispensary for the first time and pretending you know what you're doing is a Chicago rite of passage. I did it. Stood in front of a wall of flower jars, nodded at a budtender like I understood the difference between two strains with nearly identical names, and walked out with something I could have picked blindfolded. It took me three visits to figure out that the menu isn't the hard part. Knowing how to read it is.
'Ebenezer' releases the year's worst trailer
Have you always found the Ghost of Christmas Present too jolly? Too full of mirth and hope? Well, congratulations, because Ti West and screenwriter Nathaniel Halpern also felt the same way. They looked at the very embodiment of Christmas joy and said, “Nah. Not in our Christmas movie.” Seriously, what is going on in this Ebenezer trailer and movie? It’s so unclear; the film’s official synopsis doesn’t even attempt to tell you. From Paramount: This November, Johnny Depp is Ebenezer Scrooge.
Alan Ritchson joins Justin Lin's 'Helldivers,' release pushed to 2028
Earlier this year, Jason Momoa unexpectedly dropped out of Sony’s Helldivers adaptation. His departure did not sink the live-action project, though. The studio and director Justin Lin were continuing on with their quest to bring freedom to the universe. But obviously they had some pretty big shoes to fill without their former leading star. How would they do that? By finding another large man. Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson has signed on to star in Helldivers, which will now hit theaters in 2028.
'Visionquest' looks way better than expected in final trailer
For all of the MCU’s many well-documented missteps following the end of the Infinity Saga, there have also been some absolute stellar releases during the franchise’s most recent phases. That includes on Disney+, home of both WandaVision and Agatha All Along. Now that era of witchy tales is coming to an end. VisionQuest will conclude the tale of Wanda and Vision’s tragic love story by bringing back the villain that inadvertently brought them together, Ultron.

'Whalefall' popcorn bucket is better than a whale eating a guy
Whalefall is my favorite movie of the year despite the fact I haven’t even seen it yet. The reason is easy to understand. It’s about a whale eating a guy who then tries to escape the whale that ate him. Only it’s not a comedy. Only the film’s trailers all play like comedies. It’s great and I love everything about it. So obviously I am all-in on the movie’s popcorn bucket, because it’s a giant whale that will let me, a guy, eat out of a whale while watching a whale eat a guy. Even better?
'Ted: The Animated Series' first teaser is full of cheeky fun
Earlier this year, Seth MacFarlane said that, despite being Peacock’s most-watched show ever, there were “no plans” for a third season of TED. But two months after that disappointing announcement fans got some good news. The franchise was not leaving the streaming site. It was going to get its own spinoff cartoon starring the cast of its big screen outings. Now we have both our first teaser trailer at the Ted animated series and a premiere date.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is Santa Claus in 'The Man with the Bag' trailer
Joining Arnold Schwarzenegger as Santa in The Man with the Bag is Awkwafina, who plays the vengeful elf who threatens Christmas. Reacher star and large man Alan Ritchson plays the crook Santa turns to for help. The movie also stars Berkeley James, Michael Cyril Creighton, Liza Koshy, Kyle Mooney, Jane Krakowski, and Ken Jeong. The Man With the Bag comes from director Adam Shankman (Hairspray, A Walk to Remember). Allan Rice (Stuck in the Middle) wrote the script.
'Futurama' has ended (again) but Matt Groening is confident it will return (again)
Futurama has ended. Again. But don’t worry, Matt Groening says it will return. Again. And no, this is not an old post you’ve read roughly seventeen times. It’s just that when it comes to the sci-fi animated series “Time Keeps On Slippin'” across a flat circle where Futurama is simultaneously always canceled and always on. Matt Groening spoke to Variety about the ending of Futurama‘s 14th season that just aired on Hulu.
Comeback, Outsider, or Underdog? Three Different Sports Movie Stories
A sports movie can give its hero plenty to overcome without making them an underdog. Returning after a long absence, being treated as an intruder, and facing a stronger opponent create different kinds of tension. They can belong to the same story, but each asks a different question: can this person recover what they had, find acceptance, or beat someone expected to win? Happy Gilmore 2 puts the comeback question upfront.
'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' re-release and the DLC-ification of movies
A new report from Deadlinesays work is underway on a Spider-Man: Brand New Day re-release. This obviously sounds absurd because the movie is still in theaters. It’s currently “released.” So what the hell could Disney and Sony be re-releasing? :deep sigh: A version that features extra footage, same as Avengers Endgame: Encore, which just arrived in theaters. And that’s why this news feels like an ominous sign. Cinema could be ushering in a terrible new era: the DLC-ification of movies.
Good news/Bad news about Jon Watts' 'Star Wars: Episode X'
But since it seems as though we’re not going to get something fresh and new, at least it sounds like we’re getting the most interesting version of Episode X we could hope for. And it will do so in a way that will also address the biggest creative failing of its predecessor trilogy. The Good News About Star Wars: Episode X The Watts news also includes the tidbit that Disney has “shelved” Daisy Ridley’s New Jedi Order movie.
'Avengers: Doomsday' cast assembles for 'Silence Your Phone' PSA
The Avengers saved the world from both Loki and Ultron. Earth’s mightiest heroes also brought back half the universe and defeated Thanos for good. But all of that pales in comparison to their latest heroic achievement. The Avengers joined their new friends from across the multiverse to tell moviegoers to silence their phones during Avengers: Doomsday. You can watch the multiversally important Avengers: Doomsday “Silece Your Phones” PSA below.
What new scenes in 'Avengers Endgame: Encore' mean for 'Doomsday'
The Russo Brothers said Avengers Endgame: Encore‘s extra scenes would serve as a bridge to Avengers: Doomsday. Turns out that was only partially true. The superhero-sized edition of the film features four additional scenes, one of which seems to connect to Avengers: Secret Wars rather than its predecessor. Here’s what happened in each “Encore” moment and what they mean for Avengers: Doomsday. What Happens In Avengers: Endgame First New Scene?
Gizmo announces that 'Gremlins 3' is delayed to 2028
Last November, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that after many years of delays and false starts, Gremlins 3 was finally going to happen. The news was first announced during the company’s third quarter earnings call. It was originally arriving in theaters on November 19, 2027. Instead the film is going to release eleven months later. When it does premiere it will be 44 years since the first film and 38 years since Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
'Clayface' unleashes his monstrous side in the final trailer
Matt Hagen has always been among Batman’s most tragic villains. Now he looks poised to be among DC’s most captivating leading men. The final trailer for Clayface shows the actor not just embracing his new powers. It shows him embracing his monstrous side, in a movie that looks poised to bring true horror to the DCU. Oh, this is going to be good good, isn’t it? We already thought that, but this final trailer for the film is the movie’s best.
Nicolas Cage's 'Madden' trailer looks like an 'SNL' sketch
….That’s great. Hey, this is a comedy, right? We….we can’t tell. Despite the unavoidable silliness conveyed by this trailer, it does have a lot going for it. It comes from director David O. Russell. He wrote the script with Cambron Clark. And in addition to its big-name two stars it also features Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, John Mulaney, and Shane Gillis. MADDEN will debut in select theaters on November 11. It will then be available on Prime Video one week later on November 18.
'You Can See Everything' trailer: Elizabeth Holmes' documentary is insane
This is the most A24 trailer of all-time. This is like if a fever dream had a fever dream. Writer Kathryn Vanarendonk said it best on Bluesky when she wrote, “Nathan Fielder vs Elizabeth Holmes is like what if Wario had his own Wario.” Seriously, what has to be wrong with you to think Nathan freaking Fielder is the best choice to make you look sympathetic before you begin your lengthy jail sentence? I suppose that’s exactly what we’re going to find out when You Can See Everything releases. Maybe.
New 'Darkwing Duck' series starring Mark Hamill coming to Disney+
Disney+ is about to get dangerous, because the terror that flaps in the night is returning. The Mouse House has greenlit a new Darkwing Duck season. This time Mark Hamill will voice the animated superhero. And we already know what his Darkwing Duck looks like thanks to an image from the show. New Darkwing Duck Series Heads to Disney+; Mark Hamill Stars Drake Mallard is coming back. He’s heading to Disney+ to battle evildoers once more.
Toothless toy barfs up fish slime ... for fun!
How To Train Your Dragon‘s Toothless is such a perfect character that DreamWorks and Universal didn’t even bother to change how he looked when the animated franchise made the move to live-action. He also looks exactly the same as an interactive toy that caught our attention. Why does this particular plaything stand out in a sea of toys from the series? Because the Fish Feed Toothless doesn’t just eat. He also barfs up slime. And who doesn’t want a barfing dragon Toothless toy, we ask you?
'Sacrifice' trailer turns Chris Evans into human offering
Of all the many celebrities in Hollywood, Chris Evans would not be anywhere near the top of my list of which ones to toss into an active volcano. (No, obviously I will not provide you the list of which ones would be. I’m a professional.) But in the first trailer for Netflix’s Sacrifice , Anya Taylor-Joy’s plan to save a dying world is to make Evans’ famous movie star the feature player in a feature offering.
Brad Pitt rocks '70s style in 'The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth' trailer
David Fincher directing a ’70s-style Hollywood noir featuring a charismatic character of dubious morality is very much “our jam.” We’re still just in shock that film is a follow-up to one of Quentin Tarantino’s best films. The fact this is a sequel doesn’t mean it can’t be great, though. The cast certainly is. While Pitt is reprising his cocky stuntman Cliff, a new unseemly group of figures is getting in on the fun.
Brad Pitt returning for 'World War Z 2'
Are you dead tired of zombie stories ? Do you wish Hollywood would stop beating the reanimated corpse of that infected horse? Paramount either doesn't believe you exist or doesn't care. The studio has signed Brad Pitt to star in a sequel to World War Z from the director of Conclave Deadline reports Paramount has “closed a deal” with Pitt to reprise his role as Gerry Lane in World War Z 2: Zombie Boogaloo. (Not the actual title, but we can hope.) The studio has also signed Edward Berger to direct.
Brandon Sanderson defends George R.R. Martin; wouldn't finish 'A Song of Ice and Fire'
Sanderson also addressed whether he would ever finish A Song of Ice and Fire as he did with Wheel of Time. “Respectfully, I’m the wrong person to do this – and I think most fans of both of our works would agree,” he said. He then added if he were to do it he’d try to make it as much like Martin as possible, but ultimately he wouldn’t because there are “much more natural fits out there” for the task. Not that it matters.
Greta Gerwig’s first 'Narnia' movie is a Bowie-inspired 'rock opera'
Whatever I expected from Greta Gerwig’s Chronicles of Narnia movies , I promise “non-musical rock opera inspired by David Bowie” was not among my predictions. But that’s exactly what she plans to deliver with her first film in the franchise, the upcoming Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. She will transport fans to the fantasy realm by giving it a British glam makeover. Just, again so it’s clear, it will not be a musical. Just completely inspired by music and musicians.
From Screen Worlds to Lasting Images: Why Cinematic Design Endures
A strong screen world can announce itself before anyone has said a word. A particular shade of red, the scrape of a shoe across a tiled floor, a silhouette framed in a doorway, these details create a feeling that sits with you. They're why we'll often remember the atmosphere of a film long after the plot has blurred at the edges. Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride! is a timely example.
How Digital Entertainment Is Changing the Way We Spend Our Free Time
Free time once depended heavily on schedules, physical locations, and whatever entertainment people could access at home. Television programs started at fixed hours. A trip to the cinema required planning. Games often meant sitting in the same room with other players. Digital technology has changed those habits. People now move between films, series, games, podcasts, social platforms, and other forms of online entertainment throughout the day. This change goes beyond having more content available.
LEGO's 'Jurassic Park' Jeep caused me an unexpected conundrum
Earlier this year, LEGO sent me its new Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler set. Even though it doesn’t feature any dinosaurs it’s still my favorite release yet from LEGO’s ever-expanding dinosaur collection because it celebrates a truly iconic cinematic automobile. That jeep, seen in various forms, is a big part of multiple memorable moments from an all-time great film. And this versatile set celebrates exactly that by letting you build it four different ways.
Could 'Casino Royale' movie theater re-release signal new James Bond announcement?
One of the biggest questions in Hollywood right now is who will be the next James Bond. I have no idea, I just know it won’t be me. I very much doubt Amazon MGM Studios and Denis Villeneuve want their 007 to have a Boston accent. (Though James “Boston” Bond would probably do numbers, so maybe they shouldn’t rule me out?) But before we find out who will step into the iconic role, we’ll get to celebrate the last one.
How should 'The Muppets' return to TV?
This year’s The Muppet Show special garnered universal acclaim, huge ratings across ABC and Disney+, and four Emmys. You don’t have to be Dr. Bunsen Honeydew to calculate that all adds up to an unequivocal success. It also appeared to offer Disney an easy and obvious way to capitalize on a beloved asset after numerous missteps. The special starring Sabrina Carpenter was reportedly meant to double as a “backdoor pilot” to bring The Muppets back to TV.
'Wildwood' delivers a stunning final trailer
I learned a long time ago that a great, emotional trailer does not guarantee an excellent film. (Pearl Harbor taught me that lesson.) But I would wager everything I have that Wildwood will not go down that path. Not only does LAIKA— known for projects like Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline, ParaNorman—have an impeccable track record, every promo for this film has been absolutely stunning. This is hand-made, stop-motion animation that feels as magical as the story it’s telling.
