The Act to Strengthen Company Pensions (Betriebsrentenstärkungsgesetz) came into force on 1 January 2018. In particular, it introduces "pure defined-contribution schemes," which changes the system of company pension schemes. Lawmakers hope this will bring the German market closer to the defined-contribution systems common in Anglo-Saxon countries.
