A good endurance coach writes great plans, but that’s just the start. What keeps an athlete for years is how you coach the person doing it: whether you see the stress they’re carrying, adjust when life gets loud, and communicate in a way they can trust. Athletes rarely leave a coach over one bad workout or race. They leave when the communication or goals stop aligning with them or the rest of their life. That’s why I think retention is the best scorecard a coach has.
