Michelle Styles: Ducklings at Dawn
Back in mid May, a fox managed to have one of our female ducks as a midnight snack. She was sitting on a clutch of 10 eggs. As we had lost several ducks to Mr. Fox and female ducks were getting scarce on the ground, my husband forcefully argued for an incubator. Duck eggs in the incubator I agreed to try and see if we could raise ducks that way. The incubator shop duly sent the kit within 24 hours.
Bravery and the Romance genre by Michelle Styles
The other day I happened across a brief talk by the founder of Girls Who Code, a program to encourage young women to learn how to write code for apps, computers etc. Personally as a daughter of a woman who coded for a living and who choose to major in Economics rather than in mathematics (which according to my mother, I should have done if I wanted a job), I know that women are more than capable of coding (I can do it but chose a different path than my mother).

I do like thinking that those who work hard do get rewarded. I also have just finished the first draft of my latest Viking and it is a huge stinking mess. It won’t be however when I send it into my editor next week. A lot of hard work will have gone into making it the best it can be.
Christmas tree of memories by Michelle
This past weekend saw one of my fave parts of Christmas — the annual decorating of the Christmas tree. I save my ornaments and each year add one or two more. I don’t rotate the ornaments but the tree is definitely more tightly packed than it was a quarter century ago. it is a real tree of memories and I wouldn't want it any other way. My daughter and I chose the tree — short and fat this year instead of tall and narrow. We did it quickly and with the minimum of fuss.
