At the Laundromat
I don’t mind going to the laundromat. It’s surprisingly pleasant. It’s very clean, and it smells of soap and the warm clothes that have just come out of the dryer. Boppy pop music plays, cheerfully but not too loudly. There’s a dish of mints by the front door, and a magazine rack with new issues of Vogue and Car and Driver. There’s a long, wide counter for folding clothes after you take them out of the dryer and a change machine that gives you quarters for bills, even if they are twenty-dollar bills.

Jon Ossoff’s Supporters Reckon with His Loss in the Georgia Election
Outside the Westin hotel in Sandy Springs, Georgia, it rained hard all day on Tuesday. By nightfall, dozens of satellite dishes sprouted up around the hotel like giant mushrooms in the suburban mist. Inside, the final rally for Jon Ossoff was getting under way. It was noted, early on, by a few of the more than a hundred credentialled members of the media in attendance—CNN, National Review , Georgia News Network, a film crew from Japan—that there wasn’t an open bar.
